Following the current season of the local version of "The X-Factor" -  Paige Elliot Pheonix, FtM singer who came out on national TV.

Not only was it pretty obvious that it was a brave act , and would short circuit the gossip mags, he proved he was a great singer, in the style of Michael Hutchins and Jimmy Barnes.  I think he did more in a few minutes to change perceptions than many realised at the time.  Aussies love a battler who succeeds against the odds, and I  get the impression the audience finally realised how hard transition can be, but that he really was just an ordinary bloke at heart.

What do mainstream people think when they hear the word, "transsexual"?

What kind of images do they picture> etc..

We did a survey on this very question on a few college campuses. A transsexual, to those who took the survey, was generally a crossdresser who had sex while dressed up.

i think most people think of men in dresses and ultra butch women who claim to be men. to be honest i used to think of transgender people as men in dresses but i didnt even know what trans was i just thought trans people where men who wear women's clothes. now i know better.

Gay men in drag... or at least that was my perception for many years.  It was the #1 thing that made me hate myself because thats how I saw myself... yet I couldn't figure out why I felt like a woman and didn't want to have sex with another man as a man... go figure...

Once I finally accepted who I was, then I was able to look into the real meaning of 'transsexual'... IMHO transsexuals are the bravest people in the world.

Those women are stunning... no matter what their orientation.  I only wished I could look so good.  And Mahsa, if that picture on the side is of you... you could add your picture there  ;)

What I was trying to state is that most people have no idea what a transsexual is.  They tend to use the umbrella insult '->-bleeped-<-' to describe them.  Most people are just misinformed.

Those are the modern day drag queens. Say goodbye to DIVINE.

Since I am from SF. I know that they are drags... I am basically them on hormones with minor ffs/boobs scheduled. My point is that many of them with the right makeup/hair/hormones could pass as beautiful ts women. Of course, they were all beautiful femme boys before who looked like "dykes"

On a side note...this is the power of cosmetics. Because of this...more people think this when they hear "transsexual" around here cuz the drags look better than ciswomen:

One of my gay friends is probably a pedophile. It is creepy as hell.

Pedophilia is something completely different from homosexuality, isn't it?  So you have a pedophile friend instead of a gay friend, I guess?

I have the feeling 99.9% of gay men would love to have a chat with him if that turns out to be true.

?????What do you mean by saying that????

Though pedo stuff is linked to all kinds of sexual orientations and genders, it is straight men that seem to be the largest single group.

Gay men like this:

Gay men with breasts like that? The first two look like beautiful women, the third has the wrong 'contouring' make up, as you keep repeating,  that makes her face looking a bit like a horse's.

And yes, we have a celeb post op MTF in Holland who is actually very goodlooking, stylish, very well made up, but 'behaves', moves, acts and speaks like a gay man.
So, Dutch people think of her when hearing about MTF's.

Despite numerous TV documentairies and programs, media articles including pics  about TS, showing very masculine looking, speaking and acting MTF's....they still think of MTF's as some kind of 'gay'/drag queen.

It just doesn't get into their heads the vast majority of MTF in Holland used to be straight men and are masculine looking etc.

< I don't think she looks horse like at all...>

Her cheekbones are very strange highlighted up to her temples. Looks very strange, like something lighter than the rest of her face  light coloured plastic has been glued onto her cheekbones.

Good grief, no! She looks more than ok in comparison to what I mean...

I mean like this (and the vast majority of Dutch MTF's are like this):
