I somehow missed this when watching the coverage of the Valerie Plame hearing - until CNN did an interview with Midge and pointed her out. Now, every time I watch the hearing, I can't help but NOT see Midge acting like a... well, you be the judge.

You can watch Midge here. Forget the article, just scroll down and watch the video.. and the "person" in the ridiculous pink outfit in the background with "Impeach Bush" written across her breast, constantly squirming into the view of the camera and creating a huge distraction.

I don't think this person is doing us any favours with behaviour like this. I'm not arguing against her political message, just that this was SOOOO not the place or manner to do it. How can anyone ever take us seriously with this sort of behaviour?

I read the article by the dittohead-for-bush, I watched the video (cut to make Midge prominent), I read the comments that were posted.

Not one of the comment-posters mentioned Midge -- they all focused on the original blog-poster's assertion about the outing of valerie Plame.  No one commented on the final paragraph the blog-poster threw in as a distractor to hide that his piece was insubstantial (my editorializing, thank you.)

But I also wish Midge Potts would find an equally effective method of protest that presented a little more -- shall we say? -- dignity, making it less likely for bigoted individuals or groups to talk smack about all transsexuals because of her actions.  I realize some times you have to act up to be heard, but there are many ways in which to do so.

I  have to agree, let's be thankful that for the most part CNN used the right pronouns and referred to her as a woman. I did notice that one of the anchors referred to as "her, or, uh, him" But who could blame them with her wide jaw and facial hair?

If she were a comic, I could understand her silly self-promoton but she is apparently trying to promote herself as a serious political activist and even a candidate (she ran for Congress) One would hope that now that she got her 15 minutes of fame, she would just return to her private life at least until she becomes a little more convincing in her presentation.

I noticed her during the orginal hearing and felt embarassed for Code Pink of which I am a member. When the camera caught her face, I immediately knew she was trans and quite frankly felt embarassed for the trans community as well. Then when I saw the Jeannie Mose (sp?) CNN piece that showed her guy picture and her five o'clock shadow, quite frankly, I was horrified. I just can't imagine what Fox News would do with this. (Trust me, if Fox hasn't picked up on this yet, they will and they will have a field day with her)


Hmmm....I wonder how many have seen the CNN piece on her, this is the video that you all have to see. The more I see it, the more mortified I become.

So only passable trans people should be activists?  People like Midge always get into these things and sometimes they make it onto television and often, they do not.  Others in the past even resorted to hollering and being quite disruptive.

If they are going to thrust themselves into a spotlight like that? Most definitely, yes. Otherwise, they are simply setting themsleves up as a target of ridicule.

So you would only want to have passable Trans people be allowed to actually have freedoms.  Those who are not so passable should be watched and clear what they are going to do through a board of some type.  Who will set the standards?  What will be the enforcement?  How can we make sure only the pretty non trans people will do the same?  That way real life would almost look like what it is on television.

She took a stand for something she believed in, bravo to her.

Welllllll... the thing is, she USED her TG status to attract attention by acting like a "clown" (her words, not mine). Just as she USED an important and serious hearing to get herself on TV. In the process, she managed to give the impression that TGs are all foolish and ill-mannered, AND diverted attention away from a very serious and important hearing just to spread HER message.

It was supposed to be Valerie's day to tell HER story

Is it her problem if others think she is the only way TG people act or that of the narrow minded people who actually think that way?

My main objection is to the thought that only passable Ts should be out there getting attention.  I will admit that it helps but I am not going to push for exclusion, especially when it comes to free speech.

I am of the opinion that there is no such thing as bad publicity.  Really.

So, if Madge gets herself on TV as a political activist. Good for her.  She doesn't pass very well?  So what? Perhpas the public will have a more realistic view of us. They tend to think that we should all be drop dead gorgeous for some reason.

The thing is, a TS person was on TV. It will be discussed. Some of it may be good. A lot of it may be bad. But it will be out there being talked about.  Yea, I agree, she was pretty obvious, but she was not overtly obnoxious. So good for Madge. Go get 'em!

I noticed this as well. The majority of the comments on Liveleak were about wacko lefty liberals like the 'man in the dress' in the back. She was distracting.

What struck me as VERY odd . . . .since when does this administration allow shirts like? Sheehan has been removed for wearing shirts of this nature. It is almost like she was planted there as a distraction. Even I was distracted from what Plame was saying.

We are talking about Rove here. This pink 'drag queen' plays in the minds of others and was distracting. She was 'allowed' to be there for a reason.

Do we have a tinfoil hat smiley? I could probably use one.

The Congress is run by Democrats now. Something tells me Fox News will pick up on this on their shows tonight. It's not going to be pretty.
