Tick tock for bills

Theoretically, all bills that are going to move forward this session and have a shot at becoming law should have been out of policy-making committees by Friday, the Legislature's "cross-over" deadline. The money committees that deal with budgets and appropriations have more time to work on the bills that affect spending and to prepare the state's budget for the next fiscal year.

In reality there are several bills that likely will get a reprieve from that cross-over deadline. Here are some bills that are moving forward – or not:

Gender identity

A bill to prohibit discrimination on the basis of gender expression or identity won approval from the Senate last week.

Douglas vetoed a similar bill last year, but said this week that additional clarifying language in this year's version means it could get his signature if it makes it through the House.

"I believe it is in good shape," Douglas said. "I believe it is in a form that I would find acceptable."
