I just found this scribbled on a notebook page while I was digging through old paperwork. It's about watching an elementary school production on dvd.

"Free Will Vs Destiny"

We missed the play b/c she was too violent that day
so we borrowed it from the library
(her school is cool like that)
and we watch cuz she wants me to
("get that mancub outta my jungle!")
and she fights the drugs that normally put her to sleep

when she talks about the girl tigers,
about Shir Khan falling in love,
I say "I dunno. he was pretty clever."

She says he might've been clever enough to love her.
does she mean safely? sanely?
I don't ask.
("let's see what this monkey business is about...")

when she asks for food,
I again bring her rice and soymilk.
she doesn't know we're poor.
(the Chapman Chimps rock my socks)

we fight. we get by.
every day, I get up and take her to school.

every day, I sing.
everybody's house is haunted
