Well dispite being worried, I went to the Dmv in santa rosa this morning to take the written tests and get a new drivers license.  The women, there could not have been nicer,  It was easy and they were very discrete, as my old florida license was a just a bit old.  the lady checking the tests had to double check the license and me, but she was very nice about. I passed both auto and motorcycle, though had a mixup as it appears that most 50 ish women, don't ride motorcycles.  Ok, I might, just might be a tad different there.
I can not say enough as to how very easy that was.

I also checked out a nice little cottage to rent located on the very top of Sonoma mountain.  What fantastic views of the bay and very peaceful.  That plus a visit to the therapist, Dinner with my old girlfriend who is still very supportive of me  ( we still love each other dispite my changing world view). Plus shes just a wonderful cook.  Its been just a great day capping off   a warp speed week and ts land.

Interesting. I went to the same DMV to obtain forms to change my gender and name. I was told it couldn't be changed until I had a name and gender change done with Social Security first. Was your FL license gender marker F?

No I did not change gender, drat, but the lady at the counter did give me a copy of the form to fill out later.  Sorry did not want to imply that the DMV would change name or gender before the SS office.  I'm just lucky that my first name works with either gender.  Plus my old Florida license photo was hum a bit dated.  I was just trying to say it was totally fine to be me there, they were very cool about the whole thing.

I see... Yes, I found them to be friendly too. In fact I've found Sonoma county to be a comfortable place to dress and be out. I'm enjoying being Ma'amed or treated as one of the girls on most occasions we go out now, and I'm not even trying that hard. Just being me :)

Hi Ronda,

I would agree that Sonoma County is pretty open minded as a whole, except for a few of the smaller outlining towns north  of subastipol.  I'm  pretty much full time and no one bats an eye at me.   It sure beas the south east states.

Be good

Check out the Black Cat in Penngrove, Thursday Night, Pussycat Night is wicked cool. I play open mike there from time to time. I need to get back up there soon.

Living in the city is great but getting away to the North Bay is essential.

I didn't have any problem getting my F with the proper form filled out. There is a Yahoo Group that deals with DMV issues, I will dig it up later.

As of 2005, the SSA policy has changed and you need to change records with them first.  To change your name, you need a court order name change.  However, to change your gender marker, you need proof of SRS.

As far as the DMV, their policy is less strict and you only need DL-328 form completed by both, you and your physician.  Nevertheless I understand that their policies have changed too  as of November 2006.  See this link for further info.

Anyone who encounters problems with mis-match gender issues between DMV and SSA records should call the main DMV office in Sacramento at:
(916) 657-4484.

I've been to the Black Cat a couple of times with my SO and enjoyed it, open mic night can get crazy! We're thinking of moving to the city ourselves in the future, tho, an even more accepting environ...

Thanks Tink for the link. My therapist mentioned the ease of DMV change and when I obtained the 328 form was told the SSA change was necessary by the DMV clerk...I'll have to update my therapist and endo... :(

I will just half to check out the black cat.  Penngrove is just a hop skip and jump and well 1700 feet lower then my place.  I can see it from my backward.  My place is small but the view takes in a good part of the northern coast from windsor to the bay and SF and beyond.

If you've had a bad experiece, of course you want to complain and be heard.  But it's much rarer for businesses and agencies to hear compliments. ('What a concept!')

I went to the DMV Customer Survey page and posted pretty much the same thing I'd posted here.  The clerk I praised WILL get kudos, as well as the entire staff.

Beni, please take the time to take the survey and write about what you enjoyed about your experience.  It will help nurture goodwill ;D
