Some people like anime and/or manga.

Oh I thought the characters symbolized stuff. My avatar is me as a drag queen.

Well, some might. I saw someone with a Ranma 1/2 avatar which is about a guy who gets turned into a girl every time he gets dunked with cold water - hot water turns him back into a by. Also, cold water turns his dad into a giant panda.

I had a female character from a girly anime as mine for a while because I was a little obsessed with the show, but I'm over it now. Instead I just have Bender Bending Rodriguez.

I don't want people recognizing me from real life so I keep my avatars impersonal.

Who wants a boring ol' picture of you when you can have a cartoon avatar?

I frequently use forums, and few people use anything besides cartoons or artistic photos of nature.

I've used images from Anime's or Manga's in the past. Right now I'm using a ball jointed doll from ... Japan (where else).

Depending on my mood I'll use other things but for some reason I just like the entertainment from countries outside of the USA more then anything else. I currently have about 6 Manga's I'm reading and I watch at least one Anime weekly.

Other then using something from a Manga or Anime a normal everyday avatar for me would end up being a female blood elf from the game World of Warcraft.

It just depends on what you consider to be entertaining I guess.

Is that the Fluttershy stare that I see in your avatar?

We should all be very afraid.

i've personally chose to be represented by an anime character rather than put a photo because I am not ready to be open enough to post photos of me yet. that's another big step for me and i'm not at that stage just yet. instead i've chosen a character from my fave anime (gravitation) who i think is similar to me in looks and personality.

I guess it's what I do for comfort, I hide behind personas and characters for safety... :-\

Had my own photo up initially for quite some time.

Post-op I decided against it. Got some SMBD emails (pre-op) from folk that though me a 'discerning' individual for THEIR male fantasies.

I didn't quite like that (flattered though :-), BTW, this also happened to other MtFs.

My pic is ~ me when young, --- um. :-)

I would never touch cold water again if I were like Ranma, lucky bastard.
