I remember last year  when I went on vacation with my dad, and shared a cottage with my 2 cousins. Now I was TRYING to take a nap but they were to frikin loud so I just laid there. I started to eavsdrop on their conversation(Dont judge me) This is basically what I heard

"I hope its a woman"

"It looks like a woman"

"Yeah but those sergeons can do everything to make a man look like one"

"Yeah man I remember one of my friends was dating this girl, and they were dating for 4 monthes so they decided to move in together. Then he found out that 'she' was a he..."

Then I stopped listoning, locked myself in the bathroom, and started crying.

Well theres a high % of people in the world who are ignorant and you cant pick your family so you pretty much certain to be related to someone who wouldnt "agree" with transitioning. Just gotta focus on the people in your life you can pick!

Maybe because I've TRYED to educate them about transsexualsim but they just stuck to their ignorant ways?

   My dad used to say things like this about trans people until he realized that he was wrong and that it was a serious issue. My sister too - she used to say gender reassignment surgery was wrong and that those type of people were sick. Some people need a wake up call; some people need to realize they know someone like that and there's a reason those people change their bodies. My dad now tells me about how he is fighting for my rights and to get our insurance to provide a package that can cover my surgeries. My sister is slowly understanding my issues and would never say something like that anymore. You just need to explain what it's like to be trans and how your body says nothing about who you actually are - that you don't feel like a "man" and never will.  I used to be just like you and assume the worst.

My dad was like this when I first came out to him, but it took a long email to him in explaining how I felt in the most harrowing detail for him to actually comprehend how I felt and what I was going through. Beforehand, he used to say things like "I wish you could just be happy with the body you were given" or "take advantage of you bodies; you always have a girl to comfort you". Stuff like that - even after I'd try telling him several times. If you're timid and take back who you are, your family may also start to doubt who you are. If you are positive of who you are, then let them know. Don't be afraid to tell them everything you feel, because if your dysphoria is anywhere as bad as mine was, it should be. I seriously used to cry about and get anxiety attacks over this stuff all the time. I'd walk out on conversations with my family because I hated the things they said - and then within all of my doubt, they heard me. Really, don't give up, because if your mom is at least trying to understand, that's a start. And it shows room for growth.
