I just had an interview for a part time nanny position to care for a 4 and a 2.5 year old kid and my own daughter would come along too.
I was breaking my head over when, and if I come out to the parents. So we got to know each other a little bit while hanging out with the kids. Eventually the mother wanted to show me the rest of their house and she showed me some music books and some of it was church music. She then explained they are Later Day Saints. I was at this point really breaking into sweat as to how to approach my situation especially since the interview went so far fairly well.
Then I just stated that in case they have moral or ethical objections I need them to know I wasn't born a woman. There was not a blink of an eye upon hearing this. She just stated they don't care about that and they accept people for who they are and don't judge. I have to say a little earlier during conversation she asked me who gave birth to my daughter, me or my partner. It came up that my daughter has another mom.
So whether this job works out for me or not I was just so touched by the reception of these people who are after all considering to give their 2 children in my trust. This is a huge boost for my confidence as well as believe in good in people out there. For anyone who has been discriminated against, which does include me as well, there is a hope people, just hang in there and be yourself!
