I am driving down to spend the holidays with my family today! I am so nervous. I am not out to them only to my S.O. and best friend.  I am so scared of what my familys reaction to my shaved off mustach, waxed eyebrows and new hairstyle will be, not to mention the in-laws. I am not dressing femme and am not planning on outing myself to them just yet. I know my dad and brothers and sisters would be ok with it, but my mom would disown me!

Me too!! Going to visit extended family and my brother / sister... they all know I'm trans though (rumors rumors lol), just they haven't seen me since I started hormones...sooo.... fun times ahead

Well surprisingly it went pretty well. No one really freaked! My dad liked me growing my hair, said it reminded him of him in highschool.  My mom loved that I shaved my mustache off she said I look really young. None of my family really noticed my eyebrows had been waxed.  Over at the inlaws my 12 yr old nephew was the first to say" hey wow you look weird! Where's you mustache, what's up with your hair and woah your eyes brows pop out at me!"  I was like wow really all that!  No one else noticed. My inlaws also liked my hair. I was on the computer when my sister in law, walked in. She did a double take and asked the rest of the family who the girl at the computer was. She then looked at me again and was like "whoah its you lol I thought you were a girl!" I asked her if I at least looked like a pretty girl she said yes and we just laughed it off! I actually took it as a great compliment and it made me feel good inside! I mean here I was in guy mode and was mistaken as a girl! Yay!

I cooked dinner for my boyfriend and a few close friends. It was a mission. This was my first time doing it completely solo. Conclusion: Thanksgiving dinner is something that definitely needs to be prepared for several days in advance. Trying to do it all in one day is madness... and my mom even warned me. I made: turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, apple/chestnut/raisin stuffing, and homemade 100% from scratch buttermilk biscuits. And to top it off the brand-new digital thermometer that I was using was broken. I kept checking to see if the turkey hit 165°F after like 5 hours (WTF?)... but it kept giving me low temps. I finally found an old analog meat thermometer which comfirmed my sanity. Major situation averted. Clean-up was a b!tch as well. But it was worth it.

well, it kind of sounds like she may not support you when you do turn 18 and start dressing as you, because that would also say she is is letting you dress feminine. That is kind of unfortunate though that she wont let you do it now.

I don't really cook much, but my brother was down to his house for the weekend, so I had dinner there before I had to go in to work.

I remember the changes I had made years ago and how much my family tried to avoid mention of it at a family gathering way back then. I hate looking at the pictures from then too, they were awful.

Do you put butter under the skin? I usually put about 4 oz. of butter (I use Earth Balance) under the skin. I then baste it with chicken stock about 2-3 times during cooking. I most always wind up with a moist and tender turkey. I even over cooked it this year by about 45 mins. and everyone still loved it and it was very moist even the next day from the frig... which is the real test.

my Mom cooked it and she makes everything so bland. I wanted to sage it up and add a maple rub.

   That's great you got to spend Thanksgiving with your family Jenny. This was the first year i didn't celebrate with my family because they don't want anything to do with me for being trans but that's ok cuz my roomate and her family invited me to their dinner and made me feel like one of the family it was great!

   This was my first Italian style Thanksgiving and the food was absolutely fabulous. Her grandmother made the turkey with an Italian spice rub and the stuffing was made with sweet Italian sausage and spices which was really good. The desert was really good to, my favorite being the cinnamon streusel sweet potato pie....it was to die for! 


   Best Thanksgiving ever!!
