Sorry, cheesy title there I know. Well, I'm not great at talking about this kind of thing but here goes. I just wanted some advice and I thought this is probably the best place to get it right now.

I hate having to pee in public places. I wanna do the standing thing! I get so self concsious every time I go in public because obviously I have to go in a cubicle and sit to do my business. Thats not so bad if theres not many people there or no gap between the door and the floor but I cant keep lurking around waiting to make sure no ones in there before I go in now can I? It just looks weird. So I've been thinking about getting a STP for a while now and Im pretty sure that its a good idea and another step forward for me. At the moment I just use modified sock for packing (which my friends find absolutely hilarious ¬.¬). So Ive been looking around but I dont know which to get. For a start they dont look terribly comfortable and which type is best? They also seem to range in price quite a-lot and I certainly cant afford some of the more expensive types.
So, how do you guys get on with them? Are they more comfortable than they look? Which is best for a first time STP?
And also- this may seem obvious to some of you but its been puzzling me- how the hells do you get it to stay in place? A sock is easy enough to fix in place in my boxers but am I gonna need briefs instead for a STP? I've seen mention of harnesses, will I need one of those? I really can't tell If im just missing something obvious here...

I just use a medicine spoon with the end cut off. Free from Target's pharmacy. You just hold it there. It works well for me but might not for some guys, worth trying.

The gogirl is only like 13 dollars and works pretty well, I've heard. I'm buying one myself soon. You can just stick it in your waist band I think. :3

For normal STPing I use a Whiz Freedom, just need your zipper to be on the lower side or wear your pants low but it works like a charm and I haven't ever leaked with it ever.

With a packer, I ordered some tubing and will make a nipple packer soon, medicine spoon didn't work for me, took too much fiddling to master it. Never felt like I had the 'technique' good enough to even pee with my pants on.

I always carry a Whizz Freedom around with me in case I happen to need to pee where the toilets are really gross. It's really secure, but the only downside is you can't use it at a urinal cos it's bright purple! It's not a bad starting point though.

Yea either purple or white. You could always cut the shaft off a cheap packer, burn a hole through the middle and slide it over the whiz

ive used the whiz its good i just tuck it in my waist band i use a homemade stp now its good and i like it. standing to pee is a great feeling.

Lol the best sales are around the holidays, exactly the time of year when I can't be buying things for myself.

Its not a matter of better but which works for you. I hate the spoon I can't get it to work for me. Doesn't mean its a bad way to stp just isn't my way to pee. I think for everyone just starting out you should try the spoon and the nipple. Of course with the nipple you will need some tubing. Just practice with them see which feels better to you.

Unfortunately, I think you just got to try out different things and see what works for you.  try out the cheapest things first.  they say that the medicine spoon seems to work better for bigger guys and the nipple/funnel works better on smaller guys.

I've been really lackadaisical and blah about stp, but I had to pee in the woods today in a really muddy and crazy hilly place, and now I'm reconsidering.

The 'Pee-Zee/Snee-Kee' works really well and is cheap, easy and collapsible. You can use it when you really have to go and it doesn't leak. I use it at urinals that have dividers since I've gotten quick at taking it out of my pocket and putting it in place.

You must be real confident with your stp to use a urinal with only dividers between them.  I am a long ways from being that confident. I was in a restroom where the dividers were from the floor to the ceiling and were like a stall without a door.  I could see me trying first in type of place.  I have also been in a restroom at the ballpark where there were no dividers at all, don't see how I could ever use a stp there.
