Since I last posted, I accepted a job to be a mechanical/structural engineer! I am especially happy since I got to quit the job I was at.

Are there enough jobs in your field?
I still couldn't pick between ECE and ChE... I'm actually in year 2 life-sci and I'm switching to engineering next year (So regret not getting into eng after HS :'(, but oh well)

Jobs seem to be increasing, albeit slowly. All my friends were able to find jobs a few months past graduation and they range from electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and biomedical engineering. I know in my case I was usually interviewed for a position but then rejected in lieu of someone who has their engineering license/experience. It's not impossible to find a job.

Btw, you are ABSOLUTELY gorgeous! I'm jealous :P

Graduation feels really good. But it's also weird when the next semester begins and you realize you don't have any classes anymore.

I'd love to help you out. Just let me know if you ever have a question. I just hope I'll be able to answer it... lol

And now a update from me.

Just got hired to fly a private jet for some locals around here. And I hope to be able to transition while having that job! I just need the money.

Hopefully the people will accept me as I am. In the end it was them who sought me out anyway.

Congrats and good luck! I know I'm hoping for the same thing with my new job. It can't be worse than where I previously was. lol

Congratulations! Do you have to pay for your type rating and have you mentioned your plans to transition in your interview?
Still no jobs here on the eastern side of the pond.

Thanks :). The TR will be paid for by the company so no expenses for me *yay :D*

I havent mentioned anything yet, mostly because I was so taken off guard when the company told me that they want me and asked if I could start in December, I mean how often do a company call you witout a CV or anytning?.

But I will talk so the HR person about it the next week when we will have a meeting. The thing is that I know the recruiter personally and he is also my dads friend, so I hope that it will be to my benefit.

And we will fly the same people all the time so I will do my best to make them like me ;).

Are you jobhunting now? if that is the case I wish you all the best :). There are almost no jobs here either, this was just pure luck because the recruiter heard about me just at the right moment.

I am building a wellhouse out of stone from my property. The stone walls are only 3ft tall on top of 4ft tall basement walls made of poured concrete which will be covered with mortar to give them an aged look. My walls are 12 inchs wide and free standing with no wood frame behind them so its slow going. It will take me 5 days to go 46 ft long 3ft high on sides and higher at ends for door and window and center beam. Oh i am not a stone mason.. just need to do this for my access to my hand dug well in winter time..

Dear Cynthia:
Well now, it appears that you have revived this 8 year old dormant thread...  I am glad that you posted on it now.
I think it is quite interesting to find out what our current members and forum's friends do for a living (or did for a living if they are retired), and what their job and career related skills entail.

I notice that here on the Forums there are a lot of members, that like yourself are involved in IT related industries.

As most of my followers are aware, I am a CPA and own and operate my own small woman-owned accounting business.  I am involved in financial related work for my business and personal clients, tax and payroll tasks, and financial planning.
Before I quit my male-mode job in December 2016 I was the head Accounting executive for a small nationwide business.  I quit that job, and in my transition journey I immediately became full-time and relocated to where I am now and started my business.   I have never looked back... it has been an enjoyable and fulfilling change in my life in both personal and work related endeavors.

Again, Cynthia thank you for reviving this old dormant thread... I am looking forward to seeing many of our current member's posting.  I am finding it very interesting.
HUGS,
Danielle

@Alaskan Danielle, how cool ! I knew of you doing taxes for others, by reading other threads but did not know all of your work history, thanks for sharing here in this topic. Congratulations on starting and operating a woman owned CPA business in AK, very intriguing story !

Yes, I am glad you noticed me finding these "classic posts" buried deep in the forum archives, some of them asking some really interesting questions and seeing other's responses is a fun side activity I enjoy here at Susan's. If I can add something to the conversation, I will revive a thread of course knowing the OP has most likely long since moved on, yet it gives others a chance to see new topics and answer, sometimes taking on a life of their own  ;) One classic post I answer started in 2005 and then somebody revived it 7 years into the future back in 2012, and by gosh I found it on it's 7th aniversary in 2019  :) I just had to answer it, as this topic was waiting 7 years into the future twice !! how like "rare" to find this....

Well, I am retired these days.  But I have been a flying instructor in the RCAF, and then I spent many years in IT, first as an employee and then as a contractor.  I did general application programming, then moved up to systems analysis.  My specialty was security on the particular operating system that my employer used.  We never had a hacker compromise the system.

I am retired now, but I used to do medical research in all kinds of medical fields related to surgery.  My top specialty is pre- and post operative infection control and prevention.

I've been semi retired for the last 5 1/2 years. I had a 33 year career with the local electric utility in So Cal. My last position was as a Project Manager in the accounting department. We supported the work done by the guys in the big trucks. Now I work part time for a contractor to that same utility doing the type of work I did a lot earlier in my career. (wages are much better this time around and no union dues!)

I clicked on this post noticing it was from 2011 and saw your comment and thought "uh oh, someone is in trouble" but your response was very positive. Lots of forums I've seen don't like it when people do this so that's really neat. Just wanted to mention that.

As for my answer to the thread, I am a freelance video editor/creator and motion graphics artist. It's both fun and tedious but I enjoy it. So hit me up if you're in the need for such services :p Here's my metaphorical card [__] (did this count as an advertisement violation, I'll remove that part if so, just wanted to make that card joke)

Dear Evienne:
Thank you for your post comment.
As I mentioned in my previous comment reply, I find it very interesting to discover the nature and wide scope of the skills, talents and professions that our members possess.

This is good proof of people being transgender, or whatever they identify with in the LGBTQ definition, are not pre-destined to be weirdos or freaks in any sense of the definition.

Thank you for sharing...    and I liked your "fun" metaphorical card. :)
