Hi everyone, just wanted to say hello, I just joined the board and figured I'd introduce myself before I go posting about all willy-nilly .

I'm 26, working my way through the MtF process. I've been on hormones for a little over a year and I'm getting electrolysis as well.

I've got far too many hobbies, working on cars and bikes and sewing and reading and writing and video gaming and so on! Anyway, I'm glad to be around, thanks for having me. : )

Oh, I know all about too many hobbies.  Before I started transitioning I would start a new hobby just to keep myself distracted and immersed in something new.  At least until it got "old" and then it was off to find another hobby. 

Have you found that some of your old hobbies aren't as important now that you are transitioning?

Jeneva, I have found a few of my old hobbies have lost some of their charm and interest, partly because I've taken up new hobbies, partly because I've grown some since then, and partly because I've been transitioning. I think one I miss that is hard now because I'm 'in the middle' is hockey, I used to play and I think I still would if everyone was OK with a girl like me playing.

How about yourself? Any particular hobbies that transitioning has made more accessible or interesting?

I like astronomy, had a telescope and used to stare into that eyepiece on many a cold night when I was young. When I was young, that is! Now there's nothing that's going to get me to spend a frigid night outside! Hugs, Tracey

Oh, btw Welcome    I didn't realized that I hadn't said that yet.

A lot of my old hobbies were partially ways to overcompensate and hide any clues that I was different.  Beer making is a good example.  While I still enjoy a nice darker ale, I don't make near as much because I don't have to make others think I'm a guy now.  Now Wine/Mead making are still quite fun hobbies with a wonderful end result, especially since I can't drink nearly as much anymore.

I also am playing my violin more now that I'm in the middle of transition.  I picked it up many years ago because I wanted to learn to play something and I felt it could produce beautiful music (in some one else's hands of course ).  Unfortunately a couple of years after I started finally enjoying myself, I started working with a redneck that played the "fiddle".  Because I played mostly classical he decided I must be a ->-bleeped-<-got for playing that kind of "fancy" music.  He even then decided that since I treated my wife as a true partner and equal then she had to be my beard because everyone knows the woman's place is serving men and if I wasn't over her then it must not be real.  He was a hard core fundamentalist Christian and spent most of his playing time playing bluegrass for Church gatherings.  He hurt me and scared me that someone would find out the truth and so I quit playing for a long time.  But now that I don't have to pretend anymore I can play again.
