Anti-gay Christian lobbyist purposely deceptive in fight over Tennessee bill

The state bill was initially supported by the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce but the group reversed it's position shortly before the final vote under pressure from LGB/T activists. Perhaps the most active and outspoken supporter lobbying for the state action was the Family Action Council of Tennessee. David Fowler, the president and chief lobbyist for the organization admitted at the time that taking a position on what he insisted was merely an effort to promote business was outside his organizations usual portfolio but countered that "a strong economy is good for Christian families." Now, however, Nashville's major newspaper, The Tennessean reports that Fowler's motives were not so noble after all.

The law is now the object of a court challenge and documents associated with the case demonstrate the deceptiveness of Fowler's stated positions. The challenge to the constitutionality of the law asserts that the bill was actually motivated by prejudice and not the economic concerns which were publicly professed.
