So, a friend and I were talking earlier today about how we will make it a new year's resolution to quit smoking. Last pack of cigarettes on new year's day and make them last as long or short as we want. It's been a bad habit I picked up when I sank into depression the past few months and now that I've come out of that from coming out to myself, it's something I want to quit.

This has gotten me thinking about a lot of things. The more I think, the more I know that deep down, the fact that I am trans is just that, a fact, and I'm not going to change. Haven't changed in the better part of two decades. Now, I'm probably rushing it like normal, but I was curious as to what you all thought about a "coming out new year's resolution". Here's my take on it:

I'd start with my closest gay friends. (The ones I know who would be the most understanding since they had to come out in their own way.)
Then my best friends.
Then my mother before new years, or just after, but they would know first.
Finally, I would share it with the rest through a Facebook status update or message.

Haven't really thought that far yet, not sure if mass messaging would be a good idea, but I just have a feeling that I can't go on keeping it inside. If you have read my introduction post, you know I prefer to spill things out publicly in one large message. I've always been one to rip off a band-aid quickly ;) Once I have talked to those mentioned above, I think that it would be easier to make that leap into immediate reality. Has anyone else thought of or known someone who has done something similar? My take is that I am who I am, I know it will change the dynamics of my relationships with a lot of people who know me, but that's just culling the herd. I don't want to know them if they don't accept it.

Before I start rambling again, I will quote one of my design professors after a critique: (In a terrible Ohio fake-english accent) Your thoughts, your tweets?

Here in England new Years Eve is a time to go out celebrating in fancy dress and lot sof men go crossdressed so what about arranging a party or go round to/with friends in female mode and then tell everyone that this is how you will be in the future?

That's a great suggestion! I will most likely be going to a party. I don't know about dressing fully, I suppose that depends on how much I've progressed before then as far as social comfort goes. I could see myself wearing something more androgynous for the evening and perhaps talking about it at the party. Depends on how self-conscious I feel about my beer-gut by then ;)
