I currently wax my arms and legs, I hate the wax. It makes a mess and is a pain to apply. Can anyone recommend a decent epilator?

I use a Braun Silk-épil Xelle epilator and I love it.

It hurts at first no matter which area you do!  But, deal with the pain and consistently use it, and eventually the pain does subside to practically nothing.  I've been using mine for roughly a year consistently, primarily on my chest and tummy, and I feel nothing.

I use wax strips as well as an epilator. The strips are not messy at all and the 'instant' pain of the wax is a lot more bearable than the continuous pain of the epilator. It has taken about a year of epilation to get my arms and legs to the point that I can stand it. As for my stomach.... that is agony to epilate so I stick with wax.

I use this Philips Epilator

I tried the Nads strips and they took a little bit of skin with them. Very unpleasant.

I use the Emjoi Emagine.

It was expensive as hell, but it works!
I'm not gonna lie, it does sting a lot.
But nothing enough to make me cry, even when i did my armpits.

TOOK IT LIKE A MAN.

oh, but waxing definitely beats epilating IMO.
especially when you have a best friend come over to do it for you ;P

There's some hairs that an epilator can't catch(the really light baby hairs)
so i always wax .

The epilator is more for touch ups then actual hair removal.

I ended up getting the Panasonic Epiglide. I like it so far, it has an interchangeable head and comes with a razor attachment. I did my legs and chest this morning, legs were fine, chest hurt like hell!

I sugared for a while, then purchased one of these:
http://www.target.com/p/Remington-Smooth-Silky-Epilator-EP6025/-/A-12768199

I am very happy with the results compared to sugaring. I feel like I gave sugaring enough of a chance to become proficient, but I do prefer the epilator.
I never had a lot of body hair to begin with, and after three years on hrt I have a pretty low amount to clear  I think that may be why I never experienced any significant pain.
There is also an attachment which is thinner that does the underarms nicely.

I've used a braun silk epil, I'm using an Emjoi Emagine Epilator and it is a superior machine (if you can give up the cordless)

Does anyone else get really bad red spots when doing their chest? On my amrs, I didnt even get little spots, legs got them for about a day but on my chest, they're everywhere! The worst of it is below the nipples, I got hard zitlike things under each of them. I figured it's probably because it's the softest spot on my chest, anyone else have this issue?
I have a few stray hairs on my chest coming in after about 8 days, I think it's probably a new growth cycle starting. I've been tweezing them because there isnt make. Some of them are holding on for dear life, but a lot of just sliding out. I'm hoping the spearmint tea is working it's magic with that.

I also use the Emjoi Emagine Epilator and just love it.

I've found that applying a good mosturizer after epilation helps with the red bumps.  Some people say an astringent before also helps, but make sure the skin is completely dry before epilating.

The Emagine is great!
I epilated my armpits and my belly that was getting fuzzy today.

I sort of get this little tiny welts that come up in random areas, and lots of redness. But i just moisturize my body really well after and they go away.
its best to epilate at night, so you won't be so red in the morning. :]

Ya, I always get red bumps.  They go away within a day for me.  As suggested, apply a moisturizer after epilating.

Sadly I'm stuck using an epilator as my skin is ridiculously sensitive and reacts to just about anything.  I've tried shaving, waxing, veet/nair and they all leave a horrible rash and itchy skin for days/weeks afterwards.  So far epilating leaves the red bumps a little longer than I would have hoped (3-4 days) but no itching or pain afterwards.

The minute I can afford laser I'm zapping all of these little jerks!

I've got an emjoi bodybare sensation which seems to be pretty good so far (though I've not used any others).  The frustrating thing is spending half an hour on each leg then finding stray hairs left over.  Hopefully these will decrease as I get more experienced and the hairs become finer.

I started on my stomach thinking it wouldn't be much worse than the chest. Oh boy, was I wrong!! I've done two sessions on it and I'm about halfway done. Now I know why a friend of mine passed out when he got his stomach tattooed.

I started using a new facial lotion with alpha-hydroxy in it and really like the results.  Seems to cut down on the red bumps for me - plus, was having ingrown hair problems.

I can say the same thing.  The Braun seemed good when we got it, but that battery was worthless.  It wouldn't do much before it died because as you used it, the heat build up caused the battery life to shorten even further.  It got to where even plugged in full time I could only used it 50% of the time while it recharged the other part.  Perhaps on a woman just doing a quick touch up it would be too bad, but it was worthless for me.  I threw it away a couple of months ago because it just wouldn't run long enough to be usable.

I'm seriously considering laser on my arms, but my legs are tattoos so they can't be lasered.  And while the laser is cheap enough it is still money out of my GCS fund.  I picked up the Emagine earlier this week and used it on one of my legs (the other has a tattoo that is not old enough for me to feel conformable epilating so I'll continue to shave there.  But it did a GREAT job on my leg and much faster than the Braun.  I'm going to just go with this for a while on my arms, both upper legs, the left lower leg, my tummy, and around my breasts.  HRT really hammered on my back hair and it has thinned my arm hair I'm going to stick with the epilator longer and see how my arms end up.

But yes the emagine is a much superior machine!
Blessed Be!
