Someone asked me to come on here and make a thread, asking why would someone want FFS even though they have a beautiful and passing face already?

So yeah. I did just that.

I think it's because the majority of male to female transexuals whom wish to have facial feminization surgery are well passed puberty, and because of this, their bone structure would have grown in a slightly more masculine way. Now even if they still look female to other people, there are still small masculine details about them that they can't stand seeing in the mirror day after day.
Like people with anorexia who think they're still fat when they look at themselves, male to female transexuals tend to think that they still look male, even when they do not, which is why a lot of them decide on the facial surgery.

After being a girl in a male body for that long, you start to detest anything and everything that is male about you with great passion.

I think I'm the perfect person to answer this as I get this question ALL the time.

Beautiful and passing are quite different. I see a lot of beautiful transsexuals that do not pass, facial wise. I'm not conceited or anything but I'd like to think I'm pretty but I do not pass in public. And I know it's because my face gives me away.

Hopefully you're not judging passability on pictures. Like someone else said in another thread, anybody can pass in a photo. All you have to do is get a good camera angle.

Every individual that decides to get FFS is doing it for themselves, hopefully. I know I am. I think I have a cute face, and it's somewhat feminine to begin with. But I see the masculine features clearly every time I look in the mirror when I remove my makeup and pull my hair back. Not only do I see it, but others do as well. Or else I wouldn't be clocked while riding in a car.

Every time I looked at my face in the mirror, it was like seeing a battle that I'd lost, because I was too timid and stupid and unconfident to assert my needs in time.

Now, I see victory.

FFS can be more than just feminizing. It can help with features that are just not what the person wants just like any other plastic surgery. I pass really well but I want a different nose.

Honestly, I disagree that anybody can pass with a photo, because there are people who can't even pass then.  Also, you can usually tell when people are trying to pass with only certain photos and the people who do "camera tricks" likely can't pass in real life (by most standards) anyway. I only point this out, because I've noticed that my opinions of who passes and who doesn't on here seems to be a lot more stringent in approach than most. At the same time, I realize that people who totally pass within the view of the camera lens may not even come close to passing in real life. There's a lot more aspects of a person's demeanor that factor into "passability".

As far as FFS goes, I think like any other part of transitioning, the person should decide they want it based off of whether or not they think it would make them happier with themselves - not what other people necessarily think of them. It's a personal decision, whether most people agree with them or not; additionally, trying to veer someone away from a part of transitioning is dangerous territory, especially if it's someone you care about. Even though it's likely intended as a compliment to tell someone they are "passable" enough already, that person likely doesn't agree and attempting to tell them that a step of transitioning they might want to undergo is "unnecessary" may only induce more self-hate in that person.

Bascially, they want FFS because they feel that it is best for them, and it isn't really fair to question that especially within the means of beauty and its ideals.

I guess I'm a sample case of this. I passed easily before I had facial surgery. I did FFS anyway for two reasons. First, I just never wanted to have to think or worry about passability ever again, regardless of whether I'd just crawled out of bed or felt like cutting my hair super short or whatever. My voice, body shape, and movement were already well within female norms, so my face was the ONLY thing that could have clocked me, and I wanted that possibility gone for good. I am incapable of passing as male now.

Secondly, and most importantly, I felt the same kind of dysphoria about my face that a lot of us experience about our crotches or chests. So FFS enabled me to look at mirrors without feeling like I wanted to kill myself. Which is nice.

Oh, and as an added bonus it helped the people who knew me from before see me as female, 'cause it created more of a visual divide between how I looked before and how I look now.

If I had the chance to make the decision over again, I'd still do the surgery. In a heartbeat.

I have never posted any pictures of myself in any of the "do I pass" type threads, and I never will.  Why?  Every person in the entire world could tell me I pass, and I would still get FFS.

As said, it's about self-happiness, nothing more.
