depends on your personality. I did it. and not in a college town. And with a family to deal with. It's not really as bad as the whole "red neck Mississippi" meme would imply.

BUT

in terms of finding a therapist, a knowledgeable doctor? Maybe that would be difficult.

I know there's a doctor in Tupelo that's trans-friendly:

if it's worth that trip to you, but i don't know about therapists unless the college has a school of psychology - if they do they will see you and for a considerably better cost.

Thanks for the link, Tammy.  Do you know if this doctor prescribes hormones?

I'm in north Mississippi and would LOVE to see an in-person support group started here.  There is an online yahoo group, FTMs of Mississippi (or something like that; also it's open to MTFs as well), but it hasn't been very active in awhile.

I got the link from a web-site, I have no idea what services they provide but I'm strongly inclined to think they do.

Lol maybe we should start a group, have coffee some place, idk.  I know it's not that bad, but trying to figure out what I can do just gets intimidating, especially with almost no support.

connected with another MS girl on FB, 125 miles south of me...then the wife got pissed off when we made plans to meet up.

*sigh8

I'm one of the ones in the Jackson area, and down here we have a loose network with monthly get togethers, a TDOR observance annually, etc. But I don't hear much from up north, I'm afraid.

So I ended up moving to Jackson, is there still any kind of community here?

There's a growing community there. if you are on Facebook, look for the group "Transgender Support Group of MS"

if not, look for the Open Arms Clinic. they give space for monthly meetings and do some good treatment support too.
