That seems a bit bizarre.  But yes I am left handed.

Now I have a lot of aunts but they are on my biological father's side.  On the maternal side I am the oldest child of an oldest child so even the one aunt on that side doesn't count under his criteria (previous children of a (grand)parent impacting the child).
Blessed Be!

I always think this sort of research is botched, or at least poorly conducted, to be honest, because there's always bound to be plenty of exceptions to these sort of rules.
Also, it's plain logic that the larger sample of people there are, the more likely it is for one of them to have some sort of "coded anomaly" compared to the rest of that given sample. Yeah.
But I'm right-handed.
:]

I have lots of aunts on both sides and I believe, a lot of female cousins.

But I find it very interesting because I thought right-handed people outnumbered us southpaws by quite a bit. but this poll is showing otherwise and backing up the study. Of course that could change as more people vote.

I'm right handed, but my mother and both maternal aunts are left handed.. My maternal uncle is right handed.. My maternal grandmother was also a lefty...

I'm right handed.  One set of cousins are left handed, with one of them dyslexic like I am.  The teachers back in the 60's had him write right handed as with the normal procedure.  Big mistake, he has stuttering problems to this day.  Hey, teacher:  Leave those southpaws alone!  "Brick in the Wall" by Pink Floyd adaptation .    President Obama is a southpaw, I don't see anybody complain about that!

I agree. True or not, I am not of fan of these sorts of studies. I'm usually in the exception to rules and in this case it's no different. I am right handed. My ring finger is also quite a bit longer than my index finger. According to all these studies, I should be a super macho man. It makes me feel worse about myself somehow.

I'm kind of ambidextrous.
I "write" (if it could be celled writing ;D I can draw nice, but writing was always terrible) right hand
But do lot of things like left handed and for lot thing use hand which is nearer ^-^

Same for me. When I was younger, I did everything left-handed until my father made fun of me for it. So I forced myself to write right-handed, but I still do most everything else left-handed.

Entirely ambidextrous. Just depends which hand I learned to do something with as to which hand I use.

I can write with my left, but it's much slower 'cause I didn't learn how to do that till high school. So I pretty much always use my right unless I'm showing off.

75% right handed, yet some stuff works much easier/better when using my left hand. Mostly artsy modelling stuff...

My ex is right handed only, our son is fully left handed.

I'm right-handed, with no blood-related maternal aunts.

Looks like I'm an outlier.

Most of my dad's side of the family is left-handed though, now that I think about it...

Right handed

I don't know what a distinctive ridged finger print looks like so I have no idea if I have this. My ring finger is longer than my index. It's almost the same height as my middle finger.

My mom has a sister, but I don't know her. My grandparents raised me. My grand mahas 4 brothers and no sisters so does my grandfather. So I guess I have way more uncles than aunts.

I was an only child.

Left handed, ring finger longer than index, 2 maternal aunts, 3 paternal, I'm predominantly lesbian, am firstborn and have a younger sister.

(Actually.... I write left handed only, throw right handed only and use a screwdriver or hammer with either hand)

AFAIK the ratio of left to right handed in the general public is 1:7      in MTF's it is close to 50/50
To those who understand, I extend my hand
To the doubtful I demand, take me as I am
Not under your command, I know where I stand
I won't change to fix your plan, Take me as I am (Dreamtheatre - As I Am)
I started out with nothing..... and I still have most of it left.

So far this poll has proven the left handed theory wrong, And the theory about aunt's being predominant in the family seems to be too close to consider true. Given the large amount of transgendered people who visit here, I think this is a pretty descent group to see if these theories they come up with hold true. So I am truly fascinated by the results. ^_^

a predisposition as is discribed in the study isn't an absolute. while the sample size is still too small consider that in the wildtype population it's a 90/10 right handed slant. whereas these poll thus far shows somthing closer to a 50/50 split If we tested 1000 indivduals and it still came up 50/50 that would be considered very statistically significant trend even if it wasn't an absolute truth.

I'm left handed and I have 2 maternal aunts (and more maternal uncles), but I mostly interact with one of my aunts. I also have 2 older brothers, 1 is my Dad's from another marriage and the other is my Mom's.

Other sites don't nearly get that close of a ratio when this question is asked.
