Got a suit today

I am getting married to my girlfriend of many years next summer and today I had the 'pleasure' of going suit shopping with my mother and father, while my gf and my sister went looking at cocktail dresses for an upcoming function. The very notion sounded like torture but in the end it wasn't so bad. The thing is that while I am out to my parents I still live as a male and they are in total denial about me being their daughter. It's just not real for them and since I live as their son, then that is the way that they see me.

So we went to the suit section of a local department store and thankfully it only took about 40 minutes to try on a few suits and to pick the 'right' one, despite my mum opening the door to the dressing room every 2 minutes to see how I was doing. Then she got me to do a few twirls in the store in front of the store clerk so he could give his opinion. Anyway, the funny thing about suits is that they make me look more like a tomboy than I normally do. Like a woman in drag. This makes my parents very uncomfortable.

Soon there will be this big wedding where I'll have to play the part of the groom. I can't say that I am delighted but I do want to marry my girl and start a family together with her. Maybe someday we'll have a more private affair where we both can wear the pretty dress. For now though it's a suit. Just thought I'd share.

Thanks for sharing, I was confused when I saw the title in the MTF section. I love your idea of two pretty dresses! Best wishes, hugs, Devlyn

Awww... I wish you both the best and may you both have a happily ever after! You can always remarry in your pretty dresses once your transition is complete to renew your vows. Happy for you!
Don't judge a book by its cover! My lifes been like a country song! True love, amazing grace, severe heartbreak, buckles, boots n spurs! I 've been thrown off the bull a couple times, I keep getting up and dusting myself off! Can't give up on my happily ever after!

I too had to get a tuxedo for a cousin's wedding and the whole family knew I was trans... nobody even like cared... if you don't present as female in front of them constantly I think they don't understand that you don't want to wear suits and that kind of thing.

Think of all the beautiful dresses I could have worn to that wedding!!!

Does your wife know you are transgender and does she accept it?
Are you going to physically transition?

She's known from day one (and is very accepting) and yes, I will when our kids have been born. We want to have two. Fingers crossed we'll be so lucky.

I'm going to a wedding in a year, and has me in a similar situation... although I am not the one getting married. I'm sure that was quite difficult, and good on you for making it positive!!

I'm still unsure about what to do for it, because my sister wants me in it, but physically I won't look the part of a usher/groomsman. That side of my family is quite simple, so it'll be like walking on eggshells.  :-\
