I think this is where Saints Row shines in terms of customizing your player character. Based off the teaser trailer for GTA 5, I'm going to take a bet it's a retake of GTA: San Andreas in modern time.
As far as a female lead character, Rockstar is kinda in a rut as far as how they tell story-lines (see Catalina in GTA3 and SA) where it's damned if they do, damned if they don't eventually offer a female lead player character. They could but would be probably shot down asap based on sexualizing the character to appeal to their core audience which would kinda automatically fail the point of a story of a female lead.
Oh, and my opinion of GTA 5? It's going to bomb hardcore gameplay wise and sell great. I think R* lost the magic of gta sometime during 4's development in trying to make it more mature then the previous titles and forgot what it means to me as a play to be able to do things in that subtle over the top style that made San Andreas great.
