I dont wana go into any detail... because it's one of the most strongest phobia's i've ever had!

And i wana get over it because i want pretty teeth!

But... i think the only way i can is if they knock me unconscious everytime i go, iven for just a check-up.

Oh I hear ya.

I skipped the dentist for... hmmm... 41 years. No kidding. I had ONE root canal during that time, otherwise... never.

Until I started suspecting I was going to transition, and realized I had to do something about my teeth.

So in spite of the fear, over about six months, I had two growths sliced out of my cheeks (I tend to chew my cheeks when nervous), 15 fillings, and... the most fun part of all... two porcelin veneers placed on my front teeth.

Ironically, the veneers were far, FAAAAAR worse than ANYthing else I've done by a factor of 100x. Fillings... piece of cake in comparison. Just go to your Happy Place, and don't overthink too much. Focus on the goal, the end results - know you're going to walk out better than when you walked in ;)

A year ago, the thoughts of the dentist terrified me. Now... it's just, "Hi doc. Fix me." No biggie. Really, you get used to it, once you go through it a couple... err... dozen times ;)

Yeah... it's just getting to them thats the problem.

I had a bad experience with them when i was a kid and it kinda scared me for life. When i say i'm terrified, i mean i am terrified! I'm telling my nan tomorrow that i'm trangenger and i think i would rather put myself through that a few 100 times rather than face the dentist just once.

I kick, i scream, i find it hard to breathe and i just cry uncontrolably... well last time i saw them anyways which was a good 7 or so years ago now... and i think i'd still be the same. Just thinking about them sends me into a panic attack.

I love going to the dentist.  I honestly do, but again I am weird! ;)  Wishy, you could tell them to give you a mild sedative to keep you calm.  If you want a pretty smile and are looking forward to straightening your teeth or having dental veneers, then honey, you have to be strong; there isn't another way around it, really. :-\

Ive been to a dentist once in my life...  I was in 4th or 5th grade....  This jerk was the "most affordable" in the area and we didnt have insurance of any kind....  Anyways my mom counted my brother and my cavities before we went in...  He took that little hook thingie and created a small cavity in allmost every tooth... litteraly sitting there gougeing and digging it in.  Ive never gone back to once sence.  Id like to now as an adult and try to get my front teeth straightened out somehow and the few real cavities capped before they get worse.  *I take good care of my teeth due to that one frightening experiance* but I seriously cant afford it. Even if I go to mexico, so Im going to have to wait  *shrugs*

I think that dentists should be hooked up to one of those guns. Y'know, the one that shoots out the wires with needles on it, and then you pull the trigger and you shock the person!

Then when they ask, "did that hurt", and you cannot reply without gagging on their entire fist in your mouth, you instead simply pull your trigger and they have their answer as they writhe about the floor in abject misery.

I'll bet they'd be a bit more careful after that!   :D

All dentists are sadists.

Gee Thundra - what did they do to make you so made at all of them. It must of been bad  ;).

I now have no problems with my teeth  ;D. I guess ignorance is bliss.

My most interesting experience was getting my wisdom teeth on South Africa. There we go - 5th October 1999 in Swellendam (I have a diary and can tell you about any date in my four months in affica - I landed in Narobie on 24th July 1999  ;D  ;D  8)). The diary entry for that day is a bit boring - seams like I hung arround town deciding if I need that tooth to be pulled.

Ok... there was a little too much detail in some of your posts that have completely changed my mind about going >_> Not naming any names... LynnER  ::)

i dont want a mild sedative if i go... i want a FULL sedative.

As long as i can have that and have zero memory of going afterwards, i'll be fine and i will go willingly. But not before.

The laws have changed.  You have to go to a dental hospital these days to get a general anaesthetic. But all dentists will give you a \"happy pill\" or 2 to relax you, on top of a local anaesthetic. If you\'re really scared of dentists, phone any dentist in your area and ask who the local specialist is dealing with people who have a phobia about it.

The laws of God, the laws of man, He may keep that will and can; Not I. Let God and man decree Laws for themselves and not for me; And if my ways are not as theirs Let them mind their own affairs. - A. E. Housman

heh, my dentist says "scream if it hurts. Not that I'll do anything about it, I just like to hear it."

He's a sick bastard, but I like my dentist. You do get over it after you go a few times. I had a dentist fear too, but now I don't mind it.

I've only had one fear relating to dentist visits recently, and this was not even the case in earlier years.  That one fear, and the real pain, is asking the receptionist what the charges are. lol :o
