It was still light out as nearly 200 friends and LGBT community members gathered in front of the 24th Street BART station in the early evening Friday, March 23 to remember Latina transgender Ruby Ordeñana, who was found dead on a city sidewalk on March 16.

The warm spring air was heavy with grief as people held signs of remembrance, long-stem red roses, and white candles with Ordeñana's photo taped to the glass. They listened and cried as friends and community leaders spoke passionately, mostly in Spanish, about their friend and reminded the community about the struggle and danger transgender individuals face.
