As a straight mtf, when I embarked in my journey I always thought all mtf were like me but then I was amazed to know that lesbians mtf exist. Some who like only cis/bio women and others who like only mtf, tv etc...and some others love both.

So I wondered if in the ftm world, if it's the same cos I NEVER heard that so far and want to extend my knowledge about this.

There definitely are plenty gay trans guys out there, but I'm not one of them so I'll leave your other questions for someone else to answer.

There are gay trans men. There are bisexual trans men. There are straight trans men. There are polysexual trans men. There are asexual trans men. There are trans men who are tops. There are trans men who are bottoms. There are trans men that enjoy both. There are demisexual trans men. There are trans men who are feminine. There are trans men who are masculine. There are trans men who are androgynous. There are trans men who are comfortable without hormones. There are trans men who need hormones. There are trans men who feel their quality of life is improved/could be improved with hormones. There are trans men who don't want bottom surgery. There are trans men who do want bottom surgery. There are trans men who want top surgery. There are trans men who don't want top surgery.

If you can think of it, it probably does exist.

I also think it varies by location/ect.  I'm part of a local trans* group, and most of the guys (we don't really use the term FTM, transguy/boy or trans-masculine is more common) in the group are pansexual, bisexual, or gay.   Out of the 15 who's orientations I know, only 5 identify as straight.

This.  Online nearly every FTM is gay it seems.  IRL all my FTM friends are straight.

Yeah I actually tried to keep my sexual orientation quiet for awhile because I'd met so many straight transmen but no openly gay ones. I felt like I was weird and didn't belong.

I do think there are proportionally more gay ftm's than there are gay cismen, and I bet we could speculate all night about the whys and wherefores.

To answer more directly, if you take out the "ONLY" then I fall into all three of the categories you mentioned. I'm probably 95% gay, judging by my behavior and past lovers, but I'm not averse to dating or sleeping with women. They'd have to live up to way higher standards to get my attention though, so I don't seek them.

Only thing I will say is there probably aren't many that are only into "cis/Bio straight men"

This is one of the most common questions people ask me when they find out I'm trans. First they're curious as to my own sexual orientation. (Straight.) Then they want to know whether trans people can be gay. I just tell them that trans people are just like cis people. (Although then I have to explain the term cis.) Trans people are just like cis people - some cis people are straight. Some cis people are gay. Some are bi, pansexual, and everything under the umbrella. The same goes for trans people.

We're not some weird sect of LGBT culture that is predestined to be one way or another. We're just people.

yes to all of it since sexualety is fluent it comes in many diffrent shapes..

for myself I would consider myself bisexual mostly into guys..
I love ftms, I love bio gay mens, and straight bio men, but its kinda sad because no straight guy will date another guy unless he thinks you ass a girl or unless he actualy is bisexual or gay deep inside.

We were talking about a particular article on a trans man on my show last night (who identifies as gay and was formerly a "lipstick lesbian") and so the subject came up of FtM orientations. I made a point to emphasize that I didn't know of any reliable statistics but that I'd heard it seems like almost an even split, as in 1/3 str8, 1/3 gay, 1/3 bi. Of course, that's simplified because it leaves out concepts like pansexual, asexual, and others. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'd heard it on this board somewhere as this is where I get a lot of my information about trans-related issues.

Anyone else recall that being discussed here? It was probably in this section.

That's also why it seems silly to me when people argue to completely separate trans issues from LGB issues. One, there tends to be tremendous overlap, e.g. trans people who also identify as having some degree of non-traditional orientation. And two, I think the source of prejudice and oppression is largely the same, i.e. tyrannical culture around behavior, roles, and expression as it relates to gender and gender disparities.

I think thatlike with gender identity sexual orientation tends to get blurred and fall into gray areas much more easily within the trans community.  I know for me at least it has and seems pretty true for the trans people ive met in person.

While the majority of my sexual partners have been cis males, I don't neccisarily consider myself to be gay. Ive also been with cis females, mtf's and genderqueers.  Totally confused my roommates one night when I went out to the bar saying I was going to try to hook jp with a girl and ended up bringing home a gay guy. They all thought I was a lesbian. 


I think once you start questioning your own identity and reach a point where you start doing something about it, how your partner identifies starts to matter less. I just like people. I guess that makes my polyp but I don't really like that word.

The best stats on sexual orientation among trans folk I've seen is in this recent study in the States: http://www.thetaskforce.org/downloads/reports/reports/ntds_full.pdf .

Now it's not perfect, but it's the closest I've seen to an effort at a broader, statistically-relevant sample.

For trans guys (roughly 1800 respondents) the breakdown they give is as follows (page 29 in the report):
25% Heterosexual
13% Gay
13% Bisexual
46% Queer
2% Asexual
2% Other

Interestingly, the trans girls (roughly 3000 respondents) had a pretty different breakdown (page 29):
23% Heterosexual
29% Gay/Lesbian
31% Bisexual
7% Queer
7% Asexual
2% Other

I think the 1/3 1/3 1/3 split you are thinking of is more for trans girls. Trans guys tend to have a good majority in the queer/pan/bi range in not only this poll, but in most of the polls I've seen.

And ya, it always baffles me a bit when people try separate out the T. I mean I suppose I get it from the perspective of the straight guys and girls, but the majority of us are queer to some degree.
