I  don't think anyone's passable. Not even those beautiful ones that start HRT when they are 12. There's always people who can tell.

This is something that's really making me depressed right now. I've seen a lot of transwomen lately that I would never guess just from the picture. However I know that isn't the normal results, and as fiona said, someone would probably figure it out anyways.

I still find it hard to believe I could ever pass, I wish I had not seen a doctor last year for medication and stayed in my ignorant depression till it killed me, I was so close too. Stark reality sucks.

I'm sorry for going off topic. I need to do something other than complaining on a blog or forum.

Don't transition because it's hard. Do it to really be you! If you have a defeatist attitude towards transition then you wont make the extra effort to reach your goal. And you really wont have a chance at passing when you could be just a hair away.

I disagree. A good number of people (both guys and girls) actually don't believe me when I tell them I'm trans. They think I'm joking or just testing them or something.

I've seen this happen. Some people pass startlingly well.

yea, well when I've said I was trans to people who dont know me that welltheir response has usually been "Oh, you're becoming a guy?"
But, I've tasted 'passing'. and I like it!

Nurse asked me if there was any chance I could be pregnant before I had my wisdom teeth ripped out yesterday.

I've never been clocked in the 5months I've been out. It's not as uncommon as you'd think.

Lolya I went to a dinner gathering of queer people I didn't know and somebody asked me if I was on estrogen yet.

I seem to pass pretty well, so could stay under the radar.  I don't go around shouting it from the rooftops, but will out myself if it is likely to become apparent.

Like today, when I had to produce ID to apply to rent a house.  To make the 100 points of ID I produced a copy of my Birth Certificate, and quietly pointed out my name change to the agents rep.  She was totally cool with it.

At my age I really don't think there is much point in worrying about most people's opinions most of the time.  Lots of natal men and women my age  feel the same.

It is a complete myth that no transperson are fully passable. I don't know who invented it, but if I would take a guess, it probably have transphobic origins, as it is only in those connections I have heard/seen the statement in the past.

I've seen plenty of transwomen say that you can always tell.  I take it as a projection of their own dysphoria.  The same way that an anorexic will often criticize the weight of other women.

There are plenty of cisgender women who knocked Christina Aguilera for gaining weight.   Kelly Osbourne took the opportunity to slam her by saying "I was never that fat."  Well you can see how it unfolds.  A woman's worth is attached to her "to be looked at ness" value.  Which perpetuates even to small children.  Women who are not sucked into the idea that their measure of worth is dependent on how others view her,  will not care as much about these issues as other women.  Kelly slamming Christina is odd.   You see that she also slammed her fiance's lover by saying negative things about transgender women.   Clearly Kelly Osbourne has issues.  People criticized her for her looks.   I feel bad for her.   But it's a cycle.  If you believe what others say about you and let it get to you then you will suffer.

One interesting thing about the way celebrities are picked apart in the press,  I have actually seen Tori Spelling in person.  She is absolutely gorgeous in person.  I think the camera emphasizes her face in a strange way and makes her eyes look huge etc.  In person she's stunning.  She is someone who I think doesn't rag on other people and lets things bounce off her back.   And I'm sure that if you didn't know who she was and someone said she's trans people would believe it.

In fact in one of the threads on here there was a cisgender woman's picture put up an everyone starting saying she didn't pass.  Funny.

And I do agree that getting older helps.  Partially because you have most likely achieved more in the real world and realize that very few of your long term accomplishments have anything to do with your looks.  They might help you along but there are millions of gorgeous women in the world.  You need to be a strong person at the end of the day.

People imagine to see a lot of things that aren't even there if being fired up enough.
Reminds me of the comment section to a musicvideo with the openly transsexual Hip Hop-artist Sydney Starr. She is post-op and anatomically female, and yet there were comments posted about how you "could clearly see her penis in the pants", or, that you could "Clearly hear on her voice that she is a man"(Which you so can't), and so on.

I also agree that it is easy to fool people into thinking that a Bio-female is really a trans- All that is basically needed is that someone pretends to put up a pic of a transgendered person and people will immediately see all kind of "obviously revealling" things.

That being said, it can sometimes also go the exact other way, that people are just too nice and tells a trans-person that very obviously is unpassable, that she/he looks 100% passable.

However, unless talking about dangerous situations, I really do not think it is of any greater importance whether someone fully passes or not, as long as the person is happy her or himself, and if someone truly do not pass, then that truth should only be revealled to the unpassable if he or she actually asks about it and wants advice, not otherwise.

Aren't there cis women with physical characteristics that could be considered trans-like?

Exactly. Practically everyone has some traits that would traditionally be associated with the other gender.

I have a few female friends that are very unattractive.  One is very heavy and has a thick neck, she also has a lot of unfortunate facial hair.  She started dating in the black community because she felt she didn't stand a chance with white guys who judged a lot more by weight.  She's got a sort of mean countenance because of this and she's been treated poorly. I feel bad for her.

But she's a cisgender.  She would be shredded on here.  There's a difference between saying "Do I pass as female" and "Do I look like an attractive female"  I suppose many trans m t f  look at women through rose colored glasses and see pretty women.  But there are many unattractive women. They still look like women but they are not very pretty.  So an unattractive m t f will still look 100 percent female to me but just not as feminine as some others.

I really do think it's important.   I've suggested before that if a person is worried about passing, they might want to lower their standards a bit and look at women who reflect more of what they really look like rather than hold up impossible ideals.

For me for example I am an amazon.  I've seen people post on here numerous times that if you are tall you won't pass.  I've shared my experience at being "clocked" as a transwoman when I'm cisgender.  It doesn't upset me the way it would upset a mtf.   When it happened to me when I was younger I'd get a bit down in the dumps about it and go on the next day and be sure to gussy up and put on make up.  I mean I can hardly blame someone if I'm walking around with a shaved head and no make up.  Etc.  So I don't take it to heart.

The difference it seems is that when a transwoman gets clocked they immediately dive into thinking they aren't passing instead of realizing that cisgender women are often clocked as well.  Cisgender women can have deep voices, cisgender women can have strong jaws or even look like they have an adams apple when they don't.  Look at Ann Coulter.  They can be brawny and big.

You can't let someone else's opinion that you don't pass get you down.   And if you keep getting clocked that's one thing.  But if it's a once in a while thing, it happens to cisgender women as well if they have some masculine features.

I will never be a petite skinny girl like Jessica Alba.  I can sit around and be miserable or get on with it.  When you get on with it and love who you are you set the standard for how others treat you as well.

And what about you? Do you think a very beautiful passable post-op should reveal she is trans to everyone or NOT? Give reasons for your answer.

Kia Ora HP,

::) My first response didn't take into account you mentioning 'youtube', so................

::) For a 'passable' trans-person to go public on youtube, they are taking a risk when it comes to potential partners[that is not knowing if they like them as a person or whether it's their transsexual past that is attracting them] and of course potential employers especially if they don't wanting to be seen as something 'special'[the token transsexual-the topic of the coffee breaks gossip in their work place]...

::) But on the other hand, the life of deep stealth can be a hard life and very claustrophobic, going from one closet into another with hardly any breathing space...

::) In the long run it's all down to the individual's comfortability with their transsexual past,  and whether a passable deep stealth trans-woman  is beautiful of not doesn't really matter, they both share the same sense of anxiety of being found out... However due to the fact that they are capable of 'blending in' [that is, they don't greatly challenging the general public's concept of gender] even with this kind of  exposure [youtube] life won't be as hard as for those who for whatever reason do not have the ability to full blend in...

::) *But then I should also add for the non blenders the positive[even though one might not see the positive at first] people who accept you, accept the whole you and you are free from having to spend life [an anxious one at that] in a claustrophobic closet!*

::) "If you change the way you look at things - the things you look at change !"

::) Happiness comes from within ...

Men are repulsive. End of story.

I care about straight men and men in general. They pay my salary.

Sorry, I respect you as a lez...But there are those of here who love men.
