The article is about Catholics.  The Catholic Church has a rather large body of canon law to determine what is, or is not, permissible behavior for their members.

While practicing Catholics may disapprove of some behaviors, that does not equate to approving the restriction of civil rights on those who practice those behaviors.

I'm sorry that I got off topic.  I tend to flit away on tangents from time to time.  That's especially true when I find the discussion so interesting.
