So, about 6 years ago, I got my left ear pierced.  I work in the photo industry, so it looked "artsy".  I wear a simple silver stud in there to keep up appearances.  I am thinking that I want to get my right pierced.  I'm not out to anyone, but I think that this can be pulled off in boy mode.  If I need to, I can ditch the left stud when waiting for the right to heal.  Any thoughts?

I've had both mine pierced since I was 14. It was edgy when I did it in 1984 but now no one bats an eye at a guy with two ears done.

Thanks, ladies!  I went to Claire's and had it done after work today.  It's exciting because that means that this coming Halloween, if not sooner, when Heather makes her first real appearance (even if only for a night)  I can wear some nice dangling pierced earrings!  YAY!  SO EXCITED!

In general one should avoid piercing guns if at all possible. You're much more likely to have problems because of the speed the needle goes at, the relative low power of the gun and the inaccurate and inexperienced sales clerk holding a gun to your head. Traditional hollow needles work so much better.

I only went where I did because it's where I got my first ear done 6 years ago, and it was affordable.  If I ever get any other piercings beside the ear lobe, I'll be seeking out a "professional".  Thank you for your concern though.

My first ear was done by a some girls in my dorm with a large gauge sewing needle and a cube of ice, the second time I though the gun was the way to go.

I now have two hoops in each ear. No one takes any notice. I was terrified before I got the first ones done but it has been no comment from anyone

I have two piercings in each ear  :)  I'll usually have something small like a stud in the higher one and either a hoop or dangler in the lower

Thats how a friend got his ear pierced, but now he has gauges.

@OP, two earrings are acceptable for both genders.

I like to start out with my favorite (a jade star) in one ear and move to the other ear halfway through the night to see if anyone is paying attention.

I've had my ears pierced since I was ~14 or so, but I've always worn either (small) gauges or just studs.

Where are some nice places to pick up more feminine (read:cute) earrings?

Does anyone here have any rooks/cartilage/abundant ear piercings? Do you think that having some would help in passing?

@Guantanamera
I'm not sure if excessive piercings would help in passing, but I imagine it would be a function of how the piercing was done. As far as finding cute earrings, look around at the jewelery counters of your favourite department stores.  Also, Claire's, which was mentioned above, has a large selection of cute and feminine earrings for girls and young ladies.  Some of the styles are a little too young for the older ladies in the crowd, IMO.  Good luck!

Abundant? No. I have a helix in my left and an industrial in my right. I'll be adding more eventually. I don't think they are particularly helpful with passing. I don't find people use my ears to gender me very often.

They are cute though. ;)

The abundant piercings in an ear are possibly a sign you are female since that can be one of the lesbian 'signs'.

I think that earrings, especially hanging earrings, are helpful, but may seem discordant if your hair is a masculine style.  Industrials seem to be quite the rage, at least among the young girls that come into the store I work at.

Sarah, thanks for chiming in.  I've wanted an opportunity for a while to tell you that I love your name tattoo.
