Ear piercings

So I've been wanting to get a very small plug in my ear for a while. I haven't decided 100% if I will go ahead with it or just leave it pierced.

Should I just get one ear pierced or two ears done?
Should I start off with just the one piercing in case I change my mind and decide a stud is enough?
I don't have either ear pierced at the moment in case that wasn't obvious.
