Stuff like this is what makes me really wary about getting BA. Plus the whole recommended replacement every so many years. I'll just deal with small breasts and padded bras.

Same here. It's hard to believe that PIP were getting away with this for so long without anyone monitoring their product. This makes me think there's little guarantee that what you get slipped under your skin is benign.

Women with silicone breast implants made by a French company should not have them removed, UK officials say.

French authorities will decide shortly whether women should have implants supplied by Poly Implant Prothese (PIP) removed, amid fears of health risks.

But the UK's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) says none of the evidence into possible links with cancer supports removal.

It is thought up to 40,000 British women have the PIP silicone implants.

Surgeons flooded with calls over implants

BEIJING, Jan. 07 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese plastic surgeons say their phones have been ringing off the hook with calls from thousands of breast implant recipients alarmed by the recent news of faulty prostheses.

A Beijing entrepreneur who declined to provide her name had her breasts enlarged in 2008.

The 44-year-old said she became "really worried" after seeing Chinese news reports about the risks of rupture and breast cancer from implants manufactured by a French company that used sub-par industrial grade silicone.

The French government has called for replacement surgery for the about 30,000 women in France who got implants from the French company Poly Implant Prosthesis (PIP).

This alert shows a problem that still exists when the back alley surgeons were doing this in the 1970's.  Same kind of thing with the industrial grade silicone.  This kind of alert happens every 8-10 years since.  The main reason I didn't want to have them in the first place.  Even the more buoyant saline versions requires high maintenance.   I am happy of what I got.

Go for a quick consult, come back in a week and Bob's your uncle, we'll stuff some silicon bags under your skin and you'll have boobs to die for. No questions asked, no shrinks, no jumping through hoops just bring your purse stuffed with cash or your credit card and it's job done.
On the other hand
"You want to remove your breasts Madam.. er Sir.., I'm not sure we can do that???? Why would you want to do that??? We can make them bigger how would that be??? We have some wonderful implants, the latest thing, the same silicon they use to seal window frames and make fish tanks, OO suits you, cha ching! $£$£
And the difference is....
Maybe if they had been a bit more.... I don't know... maybe call it conscientious, they wouldn't have the thousands of panicking people with window sealant waiting to burst out into their bodies. Are there any trans guys with remodelled chests with poison waiting to erupt into their bodies, I don't think so. Did they have to move heaven and earth to get their procedures done, probably!
And my point is.... Maybe I'm just bitter  ;D like the Murphys
see you on the beach....

I have to say, that the ever expanding lists of dangers being ascribed to these implants, along with some of the incredibly alarmist claims, makes be increasingly suspicious.

The claims that these things suffer a high rupture rate is not actually true. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-16466918 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-16391522

A photo of one of these things, being held in someone's hand, a cut through the lining, the unit is squeezed so the gel is visible. The look of the gel is actually irrelevant.

Regardless of the filler, after a rupture, surgery is indicated.

The issue boils down to who will pay for removal.

The private medical sector, which installed them, claims it can't afford to remove them. The government can't instruct them to do so because that will make the NHS liable to remove them. The private sector is currently claiming that, because the government refuses to order their removal they are therefore safe.

Meanwhile, the tabloids are making headlines about poor women being left in terror. The right wing are scoring points claiming this proves the NHS is good enough.

Frankly, I would suggest that this is now a game of political chess, where the NHS is about to loose their queen and the private sector is on a winner whatever it does.
