   Interesting, there was another ts woman on here not long ago raving about how bad Dr. Z messed up her face etc. I haven't decided upon which surgeon i'm going with but this is actually making me scared of getting FFS by any surgeon all together.

   My heart goes out to the family of this poor woman. 

I have a consultation with this doctor in five days.  It scares me to death.  I guess this may be a sign to stay away from Chicago, and go with Dr. Spiegel in Boston, or ironically, with the surgeon I decided not to go with two years ago, Dr. Sherman Leis.

I'm pretty freaked about this news because I was considering Dr. Z or Cardenas for FFS.
There is the possibility that Dr Z might be a better doctor after this, especially since Dr. O just filed a defamation law suit http://dockets.justia.com/docket/illinois/ilndce/1:2011cv09136/263736/against DR Z a few weeks ago.
Time for him to clean up his act.

Just for clarity isn't this an anthesia related death. It is definitely tragic, but it wasn't direct physician action like slipping with a scalpel   Should't the anesthesiologist be the one named not the surgeon?

I cannot speak to this event since j don't know the full details.  But I do know that he did a good job for me 14 days ago and was very available making several house calls.

Is Dr Z being sued as the facility owner or as the surgeon.

A truly terrible thing to hear about. My condolences to the family.

Hearing about this makes me scared, too, about getting FFS done, but it doesn't mean I'm going to avoid Dr. Z or anybody else completely.

This sounds to me and is only an opinion of a case where the patient did not fully come out of anaesthesia and was still unable to breathe for herself. She suffered respiratory arrest and then cardiac arrest. She was successfully resuscitated but was left with irreversible brain damage, thus was disconnected from the ventilator and died. I believe that when you have general anaesthesia you must under any circumstance have your blood pressure, heart rate and blood oxygen levels measured every 15 mins for at least the first 2 hours after surgery (if everything is ok). Well that is what I think anyway – to ensure that you are not hypoxic (lack of oxygen or suffering a reaction). In the UK you can't have general anaesthesia in some clinic in must be in a hospital with full resuscitation equipment ready (advanced life support). The fact that they had to call paramedics to resuscitate someone is alarming. Although, this may be standard practice when you are preforming long operations in a clinic. General anaesthesia is incredibly safe but you must be aware that the drugs stop you breathing and therefore mechanical ventilation is required. The onus of ensuring that you are fully awake and able to breathe is with the Doctor. Does this facility use an anaesthesiologist MD?  Or is it a nurse? I think someone from his clinic should release a statement on how exactly anaesthesia is performed and what the aftercare is. I hope the clinic has learned some lessons from this terrible incident.
