Do you think it is worth using or just a waste of time?


    I personally haven't tried using it yet as my doctor thinks I should wait at least a year into HRT (i'm about 5 months) before adding P to the mix. I hear alot of stories about how the water retention part helps to add curves to your body but I also hear that it causes mood swings and can even cause excess hair growth.

Has sh'tty side effects for me...

High BP, excess appetite -> weight gain, black and agro moods, to mention the most prevalent ones.

EDIT: Just finished with Norethisterone as part of EstroPause/N. I guess it similar stuff as Medroxyprogesterone mentioned below.

Depends on which progesterone you'd be taking.

Medroxyprogesterone is a potent synthetic progestin with various side effects (depression is one of the most common ones).

Micronised progesterone is a (supposedly) naturally acquired progestin, stuffed into pills.

I'm on the latter, the only side effect I've had was an increase in appetite (which may not even be the drug's cause).

I take micronized progesterone. As far as I can tell they are doing absolutely nothing.

^It is doing nothing as in you are not seeing anything physically or mentally that it's doing for you?!

My doctor did tell me he never perscribes it because there is not a whole lot of researc done on it and the side effects can be on the down-side for the most part. He just feels like it's not very necessary. Is progesterone pretty expensive. I can get my Spiro and Esto. at Wal-Mart for like $16 a month, so it's very cheap for my other hormones there.

My endo has told me that, for women without wombs, there is no point.

The side effects can be nasty and even the breast growth thing was never proven.

Yes, absolutely no effects of any kind physically or mentally. I've been taking it for about six months and I literally cannot tell the difference between now and when I was on just spiro/estrogen. I was originally prescribed it because my breast growth has been kind of pathetic. But I think that has more to do with my body not reacting properly to the spiro (my T level is still too high), and I'm hoping that post-SRS I'll see some improvement. If not, well, I'll have to accept that I'll need a boob job if I want tits. 

I would note though that I have an unusual metabolism (why the spiro is struggling) and the list of oral medications that don't work on me is longer than the list that does. However, Prometrium (caps of liquid suspended in peanut oil) is SUPPOSED to absorb through your stomach lining rather than going through your digestive system, so it should work on me if it was going to. I don't know.

Where I live micronized progesterone is terrifyingly expensive. Since my HRT doctor upped my dose 'cause it wasn't working, it now costs over 3 times the amount of my spiro/estrogen combined. I've decided to stop when I run out of my current prescription. If it was doing something, I'd pay the price. But this is just getting stupid. $100 a month on one dysfunctional medication is not cool.

I do know some girls for whom it has had really good stabilizing effects on them psychologically, and micronized progesterone does not come with the same degree of hazards as the synthetics. So YMMV as always. If you can afford it, I'd give it a test run just to see if it helps you. If not, you can always stop it.

  Interesting that some have results from it and some do not. Could it maybe just be a placebo affect that they're experiencing and not actually side effects from the progesterone?

  I've heard this too because one of the main purposes of P in women is to repair female reproductive organs which we do not have. Yeah I heard it's the cause of PMS in women too lol. 

  I'm starting to think that it's just a placebo affect which is why some say it works and some say it doesn't.   

I use Depo Provera IM and Microgest and natural progesterone IM plus other hormones. I been on HRT for years. My Breast are larger than my mother or sister. Everyone is different, but my experience....... I'm very pleased.

i've been only with estrogen/spiro for 3 months and my breast grow up a little bit like an A cup but when i star to take micronized progesterone (the natural and more effective ones) like 2 weeks ago mi breast become to tender much more than normal and mi nipples doubled its size i think it helps to develop mamary glands, not to distribute more fat there also taking it i feel more calm and relaxed...

I've been periodically experimenting with adding progesterone into my regime overall it has alot of drawbacks, the advantage is that I have gotten acheing sensation in my breasts accociated with additional development I'm more hoping to make them less pointy in my case.

The two big worrying side effects is some hair falling out (not too bad tho) and gingervitis whitch is annoying and worrying.
