So after I got back from Walmart (see Walmart post), I went home and put on makeup.  Makeup for me means changing my skintone from pale and pasty to a deep tan... after an hour, the tan kinda fades though, but it totally does change how I feel about myself... with the makeup, I feel different.  Okay yeah so I don't look 100% like a woman, yea you can tell its a guy, but it didn't matter... not tonight.  I went to my monthly support group and once again it felt wonderful to be with my family, my trans sisters.  I decided to drive the hour and a half to Harrisburg from Allentown instead of watching Miss America and it was the right choice.

So this is a happier post than the usual ones I write.  Makeup is transformative.  Especially for us, and it does make you feel different.

Oh, absolutely!

It took me a few tries to figure out proper application...and I'm still learning...but I feel *so* much better after foundation, powder, eyeshadow and lips are on and balanced!

In fact, if I peek at myself from the side of the mirror, I have some pretty good flirty eyes, if I say so myself...;)
...I think for most of us it is a futile effort to try and put this genie back in the bottle once she has tasted freedom...

I don't normally use foundation or similar, but rarely leave the house without putting my mascara on.

Eyeshadow is going to be the hardest for me to figure out...whenever I put it on, I start seeing a drag queen... :(

Can't really use eyeliner, either. I have "hooded" eyelids, so you can't even see the liner on 2/3rds of the eyelid.  :(

So, I just do what looks good--foundation, concealer, a little, little bit of blush, and combing the brows (I have them "threaded", btw), and of course lipstick (I have two colors: nude, and a soft red. Also use "Bonne Belle" lip gloss daily for a little shiny-ness)

(Concealer helps hide the bags under my eyes; tip: don't put concealer *on* the bags, put it *underneath* the bags. It helps to visually bring up the part of the face that is in the "shadow" of the bags. <--Tip from "Makeup for Dummies")

Less is more, if that helps.

:)

Eye makeup is always good for transformative power - I'd invest in good skincare rather than foundation though. Foundation makes the skin worse unless methodically cleansed every day, and even then it's still better to minimise its use. With estrogen and a good cleanse/tone/moisturising, your skin can look amazing naturally - people often assume I wear foundation, but I hardly ever do (including in my profile pic, where I'm only wearing eye makeup). I use foundation for special occasions.
It takes balls to go through SRS!

As I was told by a GG friend of mine,

"A little bit of powder,
a little bit of paint,
makes a good girl,
a saint."

"I have always wanted to have a neighbor just like you,
I've always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you.

So let's make the most of this beautiful day,
Since we're together, we might as well say,
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?
Won't you be my neighbor?" - Fred Rogers

I honestly think I look no different with makeup on :P
Probably because I don't contour or anything.

Well.. I do resemble an Asian hooker when I do winged eyeliner.

I like it.

People who are comfortable wearing makeup tend to look good wearing it. I just look like someone who's really uncomfortable when I wear it (because it's just not for me - good thing it's optional :)), so I watch from the sidelines these days and enjoy the people who enjoy it :D.

I'm a bit of a looser these days, when it comes to expressing myself. But I can and do, still dream of what might be.

As I've previously indicated, I did spend a short time as female. During that, I didn't really venture beyond foundation. Which I think is so good. It's like a one size fits all solution. No matter what you can or can't do, a decent foundation is so easy and makes you feel like you've done something.

Anyway, I've come to the conclusion that, most makeup is a matter of confidence and attitude. Joey for example said that eye makeup makes her look like a hooker. With respect, you think you look like a hooker, so you do.

Check out these. These two women really have a great way of explaining things. The first series, she does a lot of eye makeup and much of it, really heavy. The second has a more subtle approach.

There are others. But watching and listening is the next best thing to practice.
