Steve Stanton's reply to Largo Commision

I haven't gone through all of it, but it looks like Karen Doering has been busy ;)

This comes from Crowd expected for cross-gender city manager's appeal

Largo, Florida - The Largo city commission chambers are quiet and empty on this morning, but it's the pre-cursor to what may be the longest and loudest public hearing in city history.

Most of the response is two included articles titled  "Workplace Gender Transition Guidelines" and "Transition Issues in the Workplace" both by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. These are both excellent articles and I highly recommend that all here read them thoroughly.

The preceding letter by Karen Doering of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, Stantons legal council, presents a strong case for Stanton's highly regarded performance during his tenure as city manager. She also discusses briefly how Stanton was "outed" by the media before the proper presentation could be made to his employer. This is followed by a brief on the standards of care and a capsulized history of treatments. She summarizes by stating that "Mr. Stanton respectfully asks that the Commission reconsiders its preliminary decision and permit him to remain in office."

I like the way this story is unfolding. Stanton is pleading his case with calm resolution.  However, the best resolution I see is a settlement in Stanton's favor. I think that it would be a very difficult thing for him to return to his job in such an electrically charged situation.  BUT.... if he does and pulls this off.... he/she will be a shining example for all to see.

I think it would be cool if Stanton were to join this forum. After all, it shares the same name. :)

A friend from the Tampa, Florida area just sent me the news paper article on Steve Stranton's case, and it was a very interesting read. Some people are aaginst what he's doing , because they feel that he's decieved them by hiding the fact that he's a transsexual, while others feel that it doesn't bother them. Bottom line is that he's lost his job as a city manager looking after seventy five thousand people.

Now if it were me, I would have started the transition slowly without saying too much  about it, and when the proper time came I would have made the changes and be done with it,  instead of risking my lively hood like that.

Gina, that is exactly what Steve tried to do. But the media got hold of the story and released it before he could complete his plan.

Actually, I'm surprised she hasn't found Susan's already.

I was wondering this too though... maybe Karen Doering would be more accessible?

Well if he was gop then I can see the media will out him at all cost but if he was a dem then I'm very surprised that they outed him media try to cover up anything negative that a dem might do.

I'm sorry Cindi. I must have missed that in the article, or a earlier article, but I can understand your point there. I feel really sorry for Steve, because the media will make a hayday out of this and it will destroy him and his family, and ten to one he'll probably will have to relocate himself and start a new life.

Stanton is so "out" now that he'll never have a moment of peace. I hope that he gets a handsome settlement so that he has no need to work anymore. That would certainly solve many of his future problems.

Also, for what it is worth, he has asked everyone to call him "him" until he starts his transition.

Yikes . . . . um, what do you mean by negative? I think it's a positive thing, transitioning. ???

If everything does go well for him, he should come out with a nice settlement, which should help him with his transitioning, and he should be able to live comfortably. I really hope that everything works out well for him

General public's view of course not ours that is what I meant as we become more popular then public image of us will change still unfortunately the majority of public still sees us negatively

I've recently been looking over everthing involved with this case, and it's strange that a large majority of people are gravitating around morallity. The way that I see it, is that why can't people just let us be who we really should be?
