i was having a conversation with my cousin about the story we saw on the news about a transgender girl in Colorado who got turned away by the girls scouts. I heard that they accepted her in now but we had a interesting convo about it. It was going well but then she said something that kinda angered me and made me think a lot. She said that it seems like transsexual's constantly need to seek validation from society meaning that "it seems like they need to join some sort of women's group so they can brag about it" for example Kimberly Nixon in Canada sued the rape center in Canada because they didn't accept her in a "all women" shelter as a counseler. She said Kimberly could accept their right to deny her entrance to this shelter but instead she sues because she probably thinks that if she doesnt work at an all women's shelter and is accepted by them and the victim's as a woman than she isn't really a woman. I think it makes sense what im saying im not sure but it angered me to think that my cousin would think that transwomen wont feel like women if we cant be part of their groups. Everyone might feel differently about it but it just angered me to think that. She also said if a woman's group has a policy that doesn't include trans people than we should respect their wishes instead of trying to "force people" to accept us as our correct gender by suing them or protesting. She was referring to the women's pharmacy in Canada that didnt accept transsexual's and they boycotted because of it. I dont think that trans people need validation from anyone or anything but it angered me that she said it seems like "we try to force people to accept us".

From my perspective, I suggest transgender people just ask and indeed, expect to be, accepted in society, for what we are.

That means we can have all the same faults and flaws and values and assets and contributions of a citizen. Being transgender should be irrelevant other than when it is. If a black person, for example, wants to join the girl scouts, the judgement would be, can they participate and are they qualified?

For us, it is and must be, exactly the same.

It may be difficult for others to understand what it means to be transgender, in the same way it might be difficult to understand what it means to be deaf, or gay.

Everyone should be judged by their behaviour, their attitudes, their contributions. Not by physical problems outside their control.

I'm sure we all appreciate the perspective of some boys, for example, being prepared to do almost anything to invade girl's private space. That is understandable.

But we're not boys.
