Okay, I am obsessed with chins.  Every picture I ever took is terrifying because the chin is so long.  Its really a major facial flaw and I pray that FFS corrects it.  My chin has to be shortened anyway.

When I took at pictures of men and imagine what they'd look like as women, I usually start with the chin and I shorten it, which means I bring it up higher and round out the jaw. 

My question is can this be done with surgery.

For example, here is a picture of a young man.  Let's pretend he wanted FFS.  He has a very prominent chin.  Okay, he's gorgeous so he'd probably be pretty even with the chin he has, but to feminize him, I shortened it and I tried not to change the jaw all that much, just to round it out a little.  See the amazing difference?

A dramatic shortening of the chin can completely change a male face to a much more feminine one.



Some are lucky and they just naturally have nice, small rounded chins.



Try it with your picture.  Just shorten the chin and see what happens.

Now of course there are cisgender women with long chins: Jennifer Aniston, Lacey Schwimmer... but since all of their other features are pretty, nobody really notices them that much, but on a TG woman its not desirable at all.

My question to all of you is: Do you think that this can be done with FFS, have any of you been really happy with your new chins, and also which FFS surgeon does the best chin work?

Exactly how much chin/jaw can be reduced via FFS? Anyone have any extreme examples?

I am very hamfisted at Photoshop and have added lots of things like unrealistic smoothed skin, nose job, bigger lips, pluckeyed brows, etc but you get the general idea, it does add to a more female look :

Think of overall facial proportions.....(drastically) shortening a chin can make a midface and forehead looking too long or can cause a 'potato looking face' like in the second set of pictures.

Yes true, my own version was an exaggerated mock-up to make a point, I wondered if anyone had real-world examples by way of comparison.

Few are lucky to have "perfect" proportions in the first place, even trickier when changing bone structure, so I am willing to compromise. I don't wanna look like a potato but I don't care if I would win Miss World either.

@Casio: Nice morph. You made your chin harmonious with the rest of the face, didn't exagerate anything. Took 15 years off your age.

@Sysm29: Wait until you're on HRT for at least 8 months to decide what to do with your chin. The worst thing you could do is over-shorten it. Small chins are NOT attractive and will age you faster because soft tissue support will be lacking. Think of an old woman with no teeth... same principle but lower down.

Also what Dalia said. The key to making a long midface look shorter and more feminine is to increase the width of the jaw. Feminising the chin is mostly about changing its shape... from square to inverted V but still a little square at the tip. Avoid rounding the chin as it will make it look like you have overbite, any roundness should be attributed to fat.

The chin can be reduced by first burring/shaping and then performing a procedure called a modified sliding genioplasty. Sliding genioplasty is used when someone has a super severe underbite typically, they move the chin forward by cutting the chin.

"Genioplasty/Mentoplasty is a type of cosmetic surgery that is used to improve the appearance of a person's chin. This can take the form of chin height reduction or chin rounding by osteotomy, or chin augmentation using implants.

A particular process, known as a sliding genioplasty, involves mobilizing a horseshoe-shaped piece of the bottom part of the chin bone by osteotomy and sliding it either backwards or forwards, finally fixing it in place with a titanium step plate using titanium screws. This type of surgery is usually performed by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon or a plastic surgeon.

When I had FFS, Dr. O. removed a wedge section of chin (a decent sized portion, I think 9 or 10 mm or something) and I asked him to burr the cleft dimple (or whatever it's called, the line in the middle thingie). He shaped the chin then removed the wedge and put it back in. He did the surgery through the space between my gums and lip, the same place he did the jaw work. Here's a before and after, I don't know if you can see the difference or not:

Be careful with cheekimplants too....they can throw your face off balance making your temples look narrower and your eyes closer set than before.
Not to mention the strange, wooden face, barely able to move or speak or smile when animated.

I just have to say this, even though it may be a little off-topic ... Meghan, what a breath-taking transformation. Amazing.

It truly is, Meghan.  He did a wonderful job with you.  He's very hard to reach though and for those of us that don't live in the West, but in the East, he's really so damn far. 

Dr. O at his best though is really excellent.  I can see why he is the father of facial feminization surgery.

I was considering chin surgery but all I had done was my nose. Turning my nose up slightly (and reshape narrower) increased the distance between my nose and upper lip, which balanced out the distance/ratio between my lips and chin. Now my chin seems fine. I'm a believer in just do your nose first and see how you look. You can always go back and do more later if you're not happy.

I guess my point is, there really isn't a cookie cutter FFS and each person should try to figure out what the least amount of work will make the most difference. There is no point in going through risks and expense for things that have a minimal impact on your appearance.

A lot of GG female models have chins that could be considered more masculine.  So I guess its all down to the how the rest of the face works with the new chin.  I think that made sense, I know what I meant to say. Eeek.
