Pictures from high angle? Why??

I see a LOT of people posting pictures of themselves that look like the person who took them was standing on a ladder looking down at them. What is the point of posting pictures taken from this strange angle? Is it to hide their neck to chin or? Just trying to understand what's going on and how they expect an honest answer about what they look like when they use a picture taken from an unnatural point of view.

Taking a picture from above can minimize a strong chin. Probably just a technique some people use to help themselves pass better in photos.

It also makes you look skinnier in most cases, which is why I think it's a popular angle for Facebook pictures!

I would say this is the biggest reason. (pun not intended)

They do it to hide masculine features. For some, it's the only way they can pass in photos.

I suppose it doesn't show dewlap but the big, -cute- eyes.  ;D
From high angle the shape of face becomes a bit skinnier, especially when the person has a round face.

At least, it's not pursing lips. Eww. I would ask that: OMG whyyy?!  :D

I don't know why it's done but some of the photos I've seen taken that way are great.  Don't we all take about million pictures and pick out the one where we look the best.  Yeah my profile pic is the one where I looked the best...scary huh?

Mmmm............maybe I should also try that angle! Maybe it will make me look better as well!!

Honey as discussed, no need for higher angle looking at your current avatar.

The notion with the chin minimising, by taking it from higher up - is right on.

Grab your mirror, hold it between you and the ceiling and look up. You look pretty good, right? Now hold it between you and your feet and look down. Different view, huh? I saw this years ago on the "Golden Girls." Blanche swore then and there to never have sex on top! Hugs, Devlyn

A rather more plausible explanation is that people take these using their web cams.

The web cams are usually cited at the top of their monitors, perhaps pined up there.

They look at the screen while pressing the save button.

So, they appear to be looking down, but are actually looking ahead.

Have you noticed how many take a photo with their mobile phone in the middle of the frame? Chopping off half their face?  Like they have to look at the screen while pressing save!

Cute. :)

All of these reasons.   At my sisters wedding she didn't have a professional photographer.  I stood on a chair to take her pictures from this angel.  She looked about 40 pounds thinner.  So that is why.  IMO

Yeah there really are a lot of those photos. Younger people tend to call them "myspace pictures" (referencing how everyone who had a Myspace page had a high angle profile picture of themselves). Most people now who take them do it on their cell phones. I find that a lot of men do it too as much as women.

I've done it a couple of times but then when I look at the photo I feel like I cheated hahah. And I can't help but think the same when I see others.
The story is the same, I've just personalized the name.

I've actually never taken a picture of myself in this way. So I just did one with my phone, and I look worse, lol.

And haha! I've always liked looking at a woman when she's on top. I feel ugly on top though cause I grunt and thrust and it seems unappealing.

Now THAT's supposed to be one big turn-on for that lady in question - never mind the picture-angle she has on you! Yes? :-)

Who cares about angles when you hear angels - even if grunting from lust and love-exertion, he he.
