Now I don't know if you guys watch the show Glee, but I think it would be pretty cool if they had a FtM character on there and it would be something I'd like to see. Now would be great or even in the next season after everyone on the show graduates. They already have an MtF character so I thought it would be interesting to see. What do you guys think?

Isn't the person who wrote that show known to write bigotted and idiotic themes about transgender people?
  •

Cody Jensen

To be honest I don't know much about the writer.

Actually your comment just inspired me to start another thread.

Who is the trans woman on Glee?  Ryan Murphy does seem to be a bit...eh, bigoted I guess about trans people.  I wonder how much of that is RIB (Ryan, Ian, Brad) and how of it is Fox though.  On the Glee Project (which was on Oxygen), they had a guy who cross dressed and Ryan seemingly wanted to incorporate that into the show IIRC.

In what I've seen, every TV show that's had a trans character bothered me. I do hope this changes, but I'm skeptical.

I like the one on Ugly Betty, lolz ;D. But if she bothers you then the Nip/Tuck trans characters certainly will.

I know the current trans character goes by the name "Beist" I think. And ya, funny because Glee is all about "accepting differences".

Coach Beiste is not a trans woman.  She's also not portrayed by a trans woman.

@Adio oh. i thought she was though...?

Coach Beiste is definitely a woman, played by one and one on the show. She is a little masculine, but she seems quite comfortable being a woman. Don't think she's trans.

I don't have high expectations of trans people in TV shows.
Whenever I've seen a Hollywood ->-bleeped-<-, it's always been a joke or a way of making fun of them and showing the worst possible sides of us, and none of the good ones.
Personally, I'd rather not see trans people in the media for this reason, at least not played by actors.
I don't like the idea of actors thinking that they 'know' what it's like to be trans, because most of them have no idea.
They don't hate looking in the mirror and seeing that they don't match.
I hate the idea of them pretending that they do. But yeah, that's just me.

@Adio this whole time I was thinking she was a trans woman. I don't know where I got that idea from either.

I would imagine a transguy representation on that show would end up looking even worse than DeGrassi and L Word attempts at representing transguys. Plus Glee is known not only to be not particularly trans-positive, but is well known to even end up being pretty homophobic as well in its attempts to be "lgbt-positive."

Honestly, pretty much all trans-representations on mainstream television make me shudder. Only time anything like this will interest me ever is when they start placing trans actors into trans roles so that we can perhaps get some semblance of accurate representation for once.

I think the best portrayal I've seen of an FTM on a TV show is Degrassi's character Adam played by Jordan Todosey. She isn't trans, but she does incredibly well in the role.

I see everyone's point. I'm actually really frustrated myself now that Glee goes against everything the show stands for which is being different, and that it's okay if you don't fit in. Not too sure how they're homophobiac. Is it because of all the hate and bullying towards Kurt? Because I thought that was to show what gay kids go through, I didn't find that homophobic towards LGB.

It's not homophobic it's transphobic. The writer is gay.
