A transsexual and ->-bleeped-<- cast will deliver powerful theatre at the Adelaide Festival.

THE Adelaide Festival show, Gardenia, sets out to explore a paradox - how to display universal emotions using the true-life stories of misfits and outcasts. ''We wanted to create a tsunami of conflicting emotions that everyone could recognise,'' says the show's joint director, Frank Van Laecke.

''It doesn't matter if the stories come from ->-bleeped-<-s - we wanted the audience to go home feeling recharged.''
"Be yourself; everyone else is already taken." Oscar Wilde
