Is there a meaning behind it you like or you just like how it sounds!?



LOL I just picked mine because it is the male equivalent of my birth name. My fiancee picked out a middle name for me that is so amazing though! It goes perfectly.

I just went for the same initials and kind of sound. I was stuck on my middle name the other day until someone jokingly suggested Dorian. I super like the book, so there we go. No special meaning or anything like that.

I wanted to keep the same initials, and I just went to a bunch of baby name websites and looked up Gaelic baby names since I have a fascination with Irish culture.  I found my name pretty much right away, but I went back through for a while and didn't find anything that would fit, but then I forgot about it until school started, and at the last minute decided go to by that name so that I would started school again with a more masculine name. I didn't really go by the meaning of the name (which means salmon), but more for the sound.

Sound mostly, and the look. I have a bit of an obsession with words and firmly believe that they all have a personality, and Asher's personality reflects mine. I chose it before I found out the meaning, but that's cool too-- something like "happy, blessed one" iirc.

I gave the choice to my mum to pick my new name, and she chose Harry, which I like I figured she gave me my first she should get the chance to ick my second, glad I like it though!

I just legally changed my name a year ago, but I'd been using the name since age 13 to refer to myself in my thoughts. I needed a way to feel like someone and I couldn't bear my birth name. I got my first name from the main character of a tv show I used to watch all the time. I guess the show was an escape and an inspiration all in one. I always wished I could just be the character. I didn't put a whole lot of thought into it, I just needed something to call myself. Now, I'm not really crazy about it anymore, but for better or worse it's become who I am. I do wish I hadn't gotten attached to any one name so I could have let my parents name me when the time came. But all in all I don't mind because it's not an unusual name for my birth year and it starts with the same letter so I got to keep my initials.

I've always disliked my birth name (Megan) and at first I tried to get into other names that sounded similar (like Morgan, or at least something with an M) and didn't like any of them.

I like a lot of J names and was considering Jake, though another transguy I know has that name, and I thought about using Tobias as well, since it had meaning for me. But I ended up just going with Jay. I haven't legally changed my name and probably won't for some time but it's already feeling very fitting for me. A girl I'm quite close to was listening to all the choices I was going through and she really perked up at Jay. On top of that, its meaning is "victory" - which felt perfect. I feel like how far I've come in understanding myself and overcoming a lot of my past in the last few years was a victory in a lot of ways.

Well my mum always had a thing for K-names and traditional names.  She periodically talked about how she had 4 names picked out, the boys names being Kyle and Kevin.  I really wanted to keep my initials and had been going by Kai for a while with the intent of using Kyler as my name, but that was vetoed by my mum in favor of Kyle as it's "less made up".  I was originally named after my grandmother and in keeping with the idea of honoring your elders I took my grandad's name as my middle name. Plus it starts with the same letter and there are very few L-names out there that flow with my ridiculously Russian last name.

Julian's the androgynous/masculine version of my birth name. I'm still stuck on whether I want to even legally change it, so I haven't thought much about middle names or surnames. If I did change it, I'd probably keep my surname and either go with Joseph (which would have been my middle name had I been assigned male) or Verne/Vernon (masculinized version of my given middle name).

Fun fact: a friend of mine started calling me Jules Verne before he knew I was trans OR that my middle name was Verna.

My mom always used to tell me that if I was born male they would have named me Devin Scott, so that's what I'm going with.  At first I tried a name that started with the same sounds as my birth name, but it never really fit me and I gave up on it after about a year.  When I thought of trying Devin, it was like Harry Potter holding his wand for the first time--  I got that warm feeling and the sparks just flew.  I knew it was perfect.  It sort of gives me the feeling like "this is how it was SUPPOSED to be.  You were SUPPOSED to be born male and then you would have been Devin all your life" and it felt like this has rightfully been my name all along and I'm just finally claiming it.

 chose Ryan kind of out of no where. It just hit me after I went to bed one night. I guess that's when the best ideas smack you in the face, huh? Then I looked Ryan up to find it's meaning, "Little King" originating i Ireland and I was like, "Yup, sounds good" xD

I got my middle name from my grampa's middle name. I even changed my last name to my mom's maiden, but I've been planning that for years anyway.

My name was the name of the knight in the bedtime stories my Grandfather used to tell me. It was also the name of my Grandparents first child who died about an hour after birth. My Grandpa was pretty important to me, so I chose to that that name.

Added plus, since the meaning of it is 'little fire'. My childhood nicknames were hellraiser and firebrand.

I've always loved the name. First heard it on the 1960's sitcom "Bewitched".

My chosen name is unisex, but I've been thinking of using it as my middle name and having my first name be John, the shortened masculine version of my first name.

I've known all of my life that it was supposed to be my name anyway.

It was an easy choice.

Because I was writing a story and the main character was named Jacob. And when I was younger I had a alter ego named Jay, so I was like Jay-Jacob. And I sat on the name for about a week, and I'm like ->-bleeped-<- - Parker - which was the name I legally changed to, and finally decided to legally go with Jacob. Haven't regretted it at all, like I did Parker. I like the way it sounds. I like that I can make a number of nicknames from it: Jay, Jake, Jakey, JR(Middle name is Riley)... and then I got another middle name "Lukas" which is freaking awesome. I know they are kinda simple, but I've grown found of them, and I just read a thing saying how popular names were amongst sexy people, and Jacob is up there. Where as something like Kevin, is considered to be a name for ugly people, which I find hilarious because it's my sisters boyfriends name. Oh, and another reason I picked it is because I looked up too Jacob Hoggard and I didn't feel like I was stealing the name. And I never met a Jacob who ruined the name for me. It is love to me. I honestly still repeat it several times a day and call myself it in front of the mirror because it makes me so flippin happy!

While I can't legally change my name (I mean, I could but I choose not to because I have a career and name recognition with my real name), I have chosen another one that I give to my closest friends in real life and my internet friends. It's a name that does have special meaning to me because the name itself also means something else and that too is symbolic to me.
