Bradley Manning to Face Court-Martial

Bradley Manning, the gay (or possibly transgender) soldier accused of providing classified government documents to WikiLeaks, will face a court-martial on charges that could lead to a sentence of life in prison.

The Army issued a statement Friday saying officials had approved the trial, as recommended by the officer who presided over a pre-trial hearing for Manning in December. A date will be set after a military judge is assigned to the case, ABC News reports.

An Army officer ordered a court-martial Friday for a low-ranking intelligence analyst charged in the biggest leak of classified information in U.S. history.

Military District of Washington commander Maj. Gen. Michael Linnington referred all charges against Pfc. Bradley Manning to a general court-martial, the Army said in a statement.

The referral means Manning will stand trial for allegedly giving more than 700,000 secret U.S. documents and classified combat video to the anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks for publication.

That is what they once said about the gays.  DADT has been dropped.  I remember the UCMJ, Navy Regs, and The Code of Conduct we all had to abide to.

I am inclined to say that Manning did the screwing.

Yes. shot his.. or her.. own foot off with a howitzer. Maybe one thing will become really clear in this case, Is he transgender or not?

Not in the least bit, the 'really clear' part at least.  It's never going to be brought up, CM courts don't consider extenuating circumstances in the same way civilian courts do.  And I'd be hard pressed to see that as an extenuating condition, and I'm hard pressed, then it's far beyond highly unlikely that a few career officers would.
