And the Nobel Nominee is:Bradley Manning

I know many here will not appreciate his efforts to bring peace but I do. So do people outside the United States. His suffering at the hands of they very government that tried to cover up what he released says volumes about the misplaced priorities of our military.

This small action brings me hope that humanity will one day recognize the folly of war and the destruction it wreaks to individuals and society alike.

Our letter to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee:

We have the great honor of nominating Private First Class Bradley Manning for the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize. Manning is a soldier in the United States army who stands accused of releasing hundreds of thousands of documents to the whistleblower website WikiLeaks. The leaked documents pointed to a long history of corruption, war crimes, and imperialism by the United States government in international dealings. These revelations have fueled democratic uprising around the world, including a democratic revolution in Tunisia. According to journalists, his alleged actions helped motivate the democratic Arab Spring movements, shed light on secret corporate influence on our foreign policies, and most recently contributed to the Obama Administration agreeing to withdraw all U.S.troops from the occupation in Iraq.

How will it look for Obama, who has already pronounced Manning guilty pre-trial, if he wins the Nobel Peace Prize? I can't think of anyone more deserving. Look at the risk he took to expose war crimes and look at what he has suffered for it. If he actually won this, I wonder if I'm too optimistic to think that Obama might pardon him?

QuoteMembers of Iceland's Movement of the Icelandic Parliament group explained that they were compelled to put forth Manning for the prize because it is vital to recognize how the courageous efforts this individual made have positively impacted the peace process in our world.

The Nobel Peace Prize is already tarnished by its association with Obama.  President Zero isn't going to do anything prior to the election.

Manning has a reservation for a long stay at the Graybar Hotel.

Here I would have thought that having Carter, Wilson, King, Tutu, Mandela, Gore, Aung San Suu Kyi and Médecins Sans Frontières (among others) as winners of the award would have ruined it for you long ago.  It's almost like the Nobel Peace Prize can only be won by liberals.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

I do wonder about the Peace prize committee. The other committees appear to think deeply about deserving cases and to vet them with great scrutiny. The PPC seem to ask who is in the headlines at the moment and give them a go.

I don't know how Mr. Obama had gotten the prize.  The Nobel prize committee historically were liberals anyway.  The only conservative I could think of offhand who has gotten the prize was Winston Churchill for literature.  I just printed out my ticket for the Republican Caucus tomorrow.  I'm going.
