STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. —  "Beyond the Binary Code: Gender in America" will be the topic of the Unitarian Church of Staten Island's service tomorrow in New Brighton.

The Rev. Susan Karlson, pastor, will be in the pulpit for the 10:45 a.m. service. Kate McDonough, lead organizer of Empire State Pride Agenda, will address the congregants.

"On this pre-Valentine's Sunday, we move beyond the binary code that only sees a person in terms of male or female," reads an e-mail from the church.

"Join us for this celebration of love, compassion and understanding beyond the binary system."

A church member will perform a monologue written by playwright Lawrence F. Schwabacher and various speakers will share their experiences regarding gender issues. A panel discussion will follow.

The church is at 312 Fillmore St. For additional information, call 718-447-2204 or visit the web site Uucsi.org.
