Suspect Arrested in Transgender Bus Stop Stabbing

A man was arrested Friday for allegedly stabbing a transgender woman to death at a bus stop in Washington, D.C., earlier this month.

Gary Montgomery, 55, was arrested and charged with the second degree murder of JaParker Jones, who was stabbed in the head on February 2. She died later that evening at a hospital.

Friends and family gathered today for the funeral of JaParker "Deoni" Jones, the transgender woman who was murdered at a Metro bus stop last week.

And the murder suspect faced a judge for the first time this morning.

At his arraignment hearing today, Gary Niles Montgomery, 55, was ordered by a judge to be held without bail.

Wearing handcuffs and shackles in the court room, Montgomery appeared disoriented at times.

At one point, three U.S. Marshalls prevented him from collapsing and sat him in a chair when the court reporter read his charge—second-degree murder.
