I genuinely liked the episode.

Ida was portrayed as an intelligent and well balanced woman and her son, Quagmire, overcame his own initial bigoted reaction and accepted his father as the woman she is. I mean.. that alone was magic!

Furthermore, Brian after getting over his initial shock, did become more sympathetic to her.

That's one of the things that irk me 'bout being angry at family guy episode is that people tend to take her sleeping with Brian as an insult, because he's a dog, but... what of his past girlfriends?
The ditzy blond.
The black schoolteacher.
etc.

She's being presented pretty much like "any other woman".

I agree with this. Every woman he's ever dated (the older woman, also) have been insulted just by the fact that they dated Brian. Hmm.

OK, totally had to chime in on the "Quagmire's Dad" episode, first off Seth Macfarlane is an ASS in general, if you saw the live script read they did for the troops you can see it come out first hand.  That being said I was surprised to say the least that they did a "trans" episode at all.  And with Ida appearing in several others after I took it as there way of accepting the Trans community, they had already poked fun of Meg .. aka RON a while back.  If they'll take the time to joke about it then they're taking the time to "accept"  them as part of the group, in a weird round about comic way.  But that's there job, to piss off and offend, if they didn't aim a shot our way every now and again I'd almost be worried. ;D
