I think I've figured out what is going on here, though it's rather obvious not that I think about it.
The British tabloids have more or less had free reign to do as they please for many years now, since the late 70s, at least when the then government was so weak Britain was in danger of collapsing all together. Come to think of it, it was they who created the race riots of the early 60s, by continually making preposterous allegations, suggestions and claims about West Indian immigrants, who had recently begun arriving to work.
They pushed their luck with their 'demands' for a law, similar to that is some parts of the US, where convicted child abusers living details are made public. This sadly, led to an essentially innocent man being fire bombed out of his home. Then, when he moved into a caravan further press claims, resulted in him being attacked in there, having his genitals being hacked off, before being stabbed in the skull.
Now, after over stepping themselves by hacking into a murdered child's phone, they have had their wings clipped. A very prominent paper has been closed and people have gone to prison.
But the fight back has started.
Initially, it was calls from the Sun, joined by some journalists, that, Enough is Enough.
Now they've turned their attentions one of the very few vulnerable groups left, the transgender.
For this, they can always rely upon the Feminists who resent anything they don't understand and are heavly supported by university types. (Surprise, surprise).
There were a few silly attacks aimed at transgender children, but now they seem to be concentrating on their parents.
They won't succeed of course, but they may be hoping to set a precedent for further intrusive behaviour, even encouraging witch hunts, if they can generate enough hostility for these parents.
If the worst does come to the worse, this story, for example, can be dismissed by the editors as being created by a guest journalist in their magazine section. That guest having a respectable reputation in her own field.
