I'm a newbie.  I'm the long-time girlfriend of a MTF who frequents this board.  We are about to dive into the wonderful world of electrolysis and I wanted to ask you some questions.

We found an electrologist who is certified and has been practicing for about 20 years, plus she's TG friendly.  Her hourly rate is $75.00.  Is that a reasonable cost?
Is thermolysis the best method for beard removal?
If anyone has had their entire beard removed, how many hours did it take and what method did you use to remove it?

I have many more questions, but I'll end here.

$75 a hour is on the high end of ok.
Blend is more popular because of less discomfort.
It's best to marathon electro to avoid spending 200+ hours because of how the follicle grows in cycles (and how electro works).

The electrologist I've contacted will do 2 hours per session max. 
How much time do you typically have to wait between sessions? 

Mine suggested weekly although the hair growth cycles works closer to 4 to 6 weeks.
Wait is typically to make sure the skin isn't inflamed anymore post treatment (can accelerate it with a NSAID like ibuprofen).
If can get injectable lidocaine, go for it (unless she's got used to the feeling of the practitioner's hand against her face and hawt probes)

 even a professional electrologist would not give you specific type of treatment advice without a consult or at least some detailed photographs
personally, I've gotten rid of most of my facial hair with laser treatments, and now am cleaning up what's left by electrolysis

I'd say read as much as you can and continue to research while you're going through the process.

also, don't be afraid to ask for a special rate since you're going to be a long term steady customer...

I also do electrolysis. The hourly rate is $5o per and the lady  is also is trangsgender. While in session it's hard to speak most of the time i just sit and listen to her. She has ton's of very interesting stories. I also go once a week on wednesday's.I really don't have to wait, if an area from the week before is still sore and red she'll move to another area. If you have the money you may want to think about E3000, its fast. I have paid $75 hr which is about normal around here. I have stopped what's left of my ecectrolysis and will continue with E3000 or maybe even consider She Chicago at the Zukowski Center.

what you must realise about electrolysis is its a hot needle glowing red hot under the skin and it causes bumps or burns depending on how soft or tough the skin is.

And doing the mega sessions or twice a week will mark the face more as the hits are closer together.

Whats does need considering is the need to not show a face all covered with burns or bumps as that will draw attention. Is the person in stealth as female or still in male mode at work/social?

Having to use thick concealer will be a dead giveaway.

I must have had 150 hours of electro and about 20 laserings and still not a smooth as I'd like.

I have had about 50 hours on my beard and I pay $50/Hour here in SE Michigan.  Realisitcally I am prepared that it may take 200 hours based on everything else I have read.

I used two Electrolistis to start and then stuck with the better one.  I go twice a week two hours each time.

A few things:
Galvinic, thermolysis or blend - the mechanism by which the hair follicle is killed differs depending on the type.  Personally I had galvinic - it's slower but supposedly less likely to scar - do look up the information.

Anaesthetic - depending on where you are, you may be able to get hold of EMLA cream which will help a little.  If you can become good friends with a local dentist, they may be willing to give you a local.  Didn't have any myself - I found I could cope with deep slow breathing and meditation.  I have to say that the ones around cupids bow were particularly uncomfortable and brought tears to my eyes. (T_T)

I was very very fortunate on the number of hours it took- I was basically clear in single sessions after 20 hours, and pretty much done by 30.

$75.00 is very cheap to what we have to pay in the U.K for electrolysis!
