That's when we are our best... when we are sobbing!  Just kidding.  I think that you were very credible on the phone.  In fact.... .that was my very first impression.

I know that this thread has been around a little while, but I just came across it and I just had to reply. OMG! All of you sound terrific! Lynn, Cindy, Megan, Charlotte - I am in awe, girls. :o  Working on my voice is a top priority for me this summer. After hearing all of you, I am newly inspired.
Thanks so much-

This thread is SO inspiring!

FYI, I record and listen to dialogue all the time as a part of my livelihood, and I'm so impressed at how great everyone sounds!

When I record myself, I am always dissappointed, but now I'm thinking that may be because my expectations are not in line with reality.  I have a big mouth and a wide chest and so my voice MUST contain more low frequencies.  Just like a cello resonating more deeply than a viola, right?

But listening to you girls, I can hear lower tonalities, but when the inflection and "melodiosity" (That's not a word, but it means what I want to say!) are there, the depth doesn't matter, the voice sounds feminine!

I'm reeling!

I'm going to go sing some Bangles records now!

Heyyas Stephanology,  the trick is all in the harmonics and the inflections of tone... pitch has nothing to do with sounding female...

try this... place your fingers on the bottom of the voice box and speak... you'll feel the vibrations... now place your fingers on the top and again youll feel them....
KK, now speak in a falseto voice till youve killed the vibrations on the top of your voice box... here comes the hard part.... learn to speak so you dont vibrate the top of the box, but dont use the falseto either... just vibrate the bottom...it takes allot of practice but it gives you that female harmonic...

Hey! Where's the voice box? (I mean... where do you put your fingers exactly?)  I wanna try that!

The way I've found is by just doing a random set of 'cartoon' voices with my hand on my trachea to see where it vibrates the most. About there is where the voice box is located. Remember it's more like voice cords than a box, so it will feel more along the length of the trachea than in one spot alone. I've tried Melanie A Phillips method and it does work to a degree, but it takes practice before you can actually hit the general location of what she calls the 'back' of the voice. It can be frustrating at times because I'll hit it dead on one night and the next night, no joy. >_<

Perhaps you meant melodiousness, which is a word. :)
