On Monday I was stopped by a drunk asking for money.*  When he heard me speak he started calling me Stephen Fry.  I am not entirely sure what he meant by this.  I have an educated voice but it isn't plummy I don't think.  This man was a rough gruff Glasgow working class fellow with all that that entails.  I suppose from his point of view I sounded hopelessly posh and sophisticated.



* It was 6.15pm and he was drunk.  The Americans here will find this hard to believe but sadly Scotland has a hardcore, raging booze culture - as does England I might add.   Poor deluded man stopped the wrong person as I only had 64p with me.  I was on my way to the bank.

I should point out that I was in male mode at the time as I am not out to anyone outside the family.

I can 'read' a drunk at twenty paces LOL

When I am overseas I seem to turn into a 'Drunk Magnet'. 

Maybe you should have returned the... favour, and called him Rab C Nesbitt.

If Americans know one thing about Scotland (and that counts more than half of them out to begin with), it is that Scotland is were Scotch whiskey comes from.
