For a change, how about bizarre and dumb things family members have done in the past?

According to my Mum, when she was a girl in the 30's, one of her brothers caught an eel and decided to 'smoke' it.  So, he hung it on a hook up in the farmhouse chimney.  In Summer. In rural Australia.
A couple of weeks later, Grandmother banned the topic of 'smoked eel' when a stinky, flyblown eel landed in the lounge room fireplace. Urk!

This tale falls into the dumb category

My family had various boats as I grew up, one day my dad was pulling our boat into a lock walking backwards, he'd navigated this lock for years but had forgotten about the 7 or 8 ft drop onto concrete by the steps, seconds after he hit the wet, slippery concrete my nan poked her head out of the boat & exclaimed with her lilting Irish accent "Aww, I missed it, can you do it again please?". . . . .pmsl

My grandmother was saved from being crushed from her drunk grandfather when she was like 1 yrs old by an angel. Yes we have had miracles in my families background. Lots and lots of praying happens with the women from moms side of the family.

Its a miracle i survived this long in my life too  ;D  thats from all of moms prayers for me as she still does daily at 89
I'm an Amazon womyn + very butch + respecting MWMF since 1999 unless invited. + I AM A HIPPIE

This one goes into the seriously dumb category.

Me & my brother were fishing on the canal & a group of swans were taking our bait so we got some bread & led them away, we then cut down a steep slope to make our way back so they wouldn't follow.
As we cut through a field I found a pidgeon that had been shot but not killed & insisted that we save it.
We went back up the slope to the boat & came to a barbed wire fence, I climbed through & my brother passed the bird to me, as he put it in my hands the dry mud beneath his feet slide away & he dragged his wrists down the barbed wire. He stood up with blood everywhere & all I could think of saying was "you find a safer way back i'll get the bird to safety" DUMB!!

I got to the boat & my parents said they couldn't do anything for the bird, after sitting down to for about 5 minutes my mum asked where my brother was & I responded "he cut his wrist open on some barbed wire but he'll be fine" DUMB, DUMB, DUMB!!

He was alright but I couldn't work out at the time why my parents went mental?!?
