So glad to have finally gotten this done... it's been a long time coming for me. I was working at a law firm last year and they had agreed to do the name change pro bono. Unfortunately it was mishandled from the beginning (got passed from person to person), time passed, and not much was getting done. My gf and I took the lead on it and here we are today. Presented before the judge, showed my documentation, said I wanted my name changed. She asked me why and I briefly explained that I was trans. The look on her face indicated that she had never heard those words spoken before, lol. Thankfully that was pretty much it. Got the certified copies and will be heading to the DMV on Thursday once i have the gender change letter from my doc. One more step forward! :)

I would never disclose that I was trans unless I had to, so this is very brave of you to give that reason in my opinion. I was never even asked as to why I wanted to change my name at my court date.
Meow.

I hate disclosing it too but unfortunately I've been in a lot of situations lately where I've had to so I'm starting to get used to it. Hopefully that will happen less and less. She asked if I had my birth certificate which also isn't necessary for a name change... I took it that she hadn't dealt with many before. At any rate, I'm just glad it's done.
