But I do play one on forums! The General Discussions description has an error. It should say your, not you're. Well, at least I think it should! Hugs, Devlyn

That spelling mistake/wrong grammar actually shows up in a few places on the site. Is this the right place for reporting things like this? We want to put on a good face for visitors! Hugs, Devlyn

'Struth' cobber. Watcha goin' on 'bout. Startin' ta sound a bit peddy-antic ifya ask me Blue.
I thawt everyone spoke 'Strine'. Short fur, Aussie, mate! Can't bloody well help ya Bluey. Bit beyond my edification me thinks.

But in fact you raise a good point Devlyn. I know I've been caught out on a few occasions lately, as the spell checker doesn't work since there has been a few connections or bandwidth problems. Well at least it doesn't work on this side of the 'creek'.'

Sure, spelling is important to me, particularly when the correction feature is available. The grammatical syntax that you've highlighted is important too, as reading and writing are our principle and primary forms of communication and relationship building here. However to take it further, which I'm not sure you are suggesting, may have the opposite affect. (Or is that effect?)

To be perceived as a cohort of University PHD (Post Hole Diggers) (Please excuse the Aussie scarism), graduates may produce a negative result from a visitor, potential family member, thinking this is too high brow for them ,as they may already be suffering anxiety from diagnosed or undiagnosed GID.

I think one of the unique qualities of the family here at Susan's is the uniquely individual dialects that turn up in many posts. See; even that last statement I made "that turn up in many posts" I don't think is in the Queens English, grammatical correct. (Probably a throw back from my convict heritage    :embarrassed: )

Nevertheless, lets leave the topic on the table and see where it goes.

P.S. Just perchance before leaving I tried the Spell Check. Damn thing works now. It certainly struggled with the earlier 'Stine' but did pick up one legitimate spelling mistake. It was the word 'individual' which must have been the result of my dyslexic fingers  :(

I'm not too sure where the proper place to post those enquires is. There is a very nice book by Lynne Truss 'Eats, Shoots & Leaves. Which is an essay on correct punctuation. A fascinating read and the title is very close to the standard description of the average Aussie male, Eats, Roots and Leaves. I will not explain any further

Common errors I find on other forums as well.  Your/you're, its/it's, were/we're, etc. plus the spelling errors.  This tomboy dyslexic has and is still doing such errors.  Who/who'd/whom would've thunk it!

An old observation but sadly still current.

I receive the most perfectly displayed essays from my students that can be completely illiterate, even if they use a spell check. If they do not know how to spell, a spell check doesn't help.

Not to mention the disgusting habit I frequently fall into. The wretched hanging preposition. As if I didn't know that to. I guess it could be worse, but.  It's one of my more diabolical bad habits that I can't get out of.  We can only but hope.  (WOW, where did THAT one come from? "but hope?"  :o   ::)  :police:)

Unfortunately, we do have quite a few errors in spelling and punctuation. I would also phrase some things differently. It's not just the forum descriptions--the wiki could also use a firm hand. But fixing all of this would be a gargantuan task, especially from member suggestions. Better to just have someone go through and edit freely.

Still, you're right...maybe you can post in the suggestions section?

Just to clarify, I wasn't talking about each post. I think the site listings should be correct. Hugs, Devlyn
